Not me, that's for sure ... :)) The toes and the piece of tissue you see just behind this corner ... were they chasing her ? a small detail, but you know, life is often all about small details ....

Always pleasant surprises appearing from behind a corner, almost like the cameras of traffic police that flashes you for speeding ... like here coming around a corner, who maybe next ? You ? that would rather be like a 'deus ex machina' , no ? I would forget to click then ...! :))

On the wall the sign of the communist party, rather explicit present in the Muslim area of Madurai city.

A first Tamil lesson - Madurai

He was not really happy about it as he cried the whole neighbourhood together while everybody had fun to see his loud protest and final submission.

Indeed a first lesson, a Tamil takes a shower every day, you must be very clean on yourself. One other of those first lessons is, you should brush your teeth daily as like a Tamil would have been born with a toothbrush !
Hygiene is top priority in the culture here, you may be poor but at least clean, your white shirt must be impecable like it just came from the iron-man.

A kind of shot that takes you to the core of Tamil life, a scene with all the chaotic clutter around showing how simple people live together in these small compounds for the poor in the center of the city.

One of a serie, preferring this one as finally the boy couldn't cry loud anymore by the pooring water, he had to submit himself.

Don't touch my mothers food ! - Madurai

Startled and maybe a bit scared he looked at me, like he was ready to defend the food of his mother with an ax, "aruval" named here, in his hand.

This kind of knife is used all over here to cut wood or to cut the top of a fresh coconut to drink the water and even sometimes to fight other man like they are showing now in the new film called "Thirupatchi" about fighting and killing enemies, a bloody movie which Tamils really like to see.

Like you see here this young boy, you could tell already that he was born with this knife like a real Tamil.

She will take care of you ! - Madurai

Selvi J Jayalalithaa, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu once, shown on the wall-painting, political publicity. She got just one year older then me, but then again, I never knew personally a famous film actress:). She managed well and indeed she is known as a tough lady to the central government to barge the best for Tamil Nadu. One of the main problems to tackle is getting water from the dams of Karnataka and Kerala, the only way for survival of the farmers of Tamil Nadu and to take care of the poverty in the country.

I do not try to be involved politically, knowing that M.Karunanidhi is her political adversary, keeping each other very well in balance in the fight against corruption, a legacy that will have to vanish with the modern times in favor of all Tamillians.

Rather frightening sad colors here, taken on the main street to Madurai station.
An exceptional counterpoint in my photostream to depict the contrast between politicians and homeless.

Handicapped - Tirukalukundram

Not an unusual sight, a handicapped man lying on the ground on his small rolling board, stone drunken at the main bus stand here. They beg all day and when they got enough they buy liquors, many of them become addictive to alcohol, a way for them to forget the curse of their lonely life, not able to do anymore what they once could.

But let's not disturb him, he is happy for a while ...

PS
They can go to a shelter for handicapped people to get some food and some pocket money but they prefer to go back on the street using their pocket money immediately.....

In the West they hide handicapped people from society but here they stay part of the streets.

Nightlife in Madurai

Till 22.00 hours the city respires an intens life still, after everybody goes to sleep or to a late cinema in the weekends.

Shops are illuminated to praise their fresh salesware with vibrant colors ... an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

I jump now and then in this colorful nightsettings with higher ISO ...

Rameswaram, early morning, Andhra pilgrims awakening, sleeping in vans, getting ready to go to the temple or to the sea to take a holy bath ... but first the make up, putting a pottu or dot on their foerehead between the eybrowns, the sixht chakra spot, to increase the spirital energy.

Beeda - Madurai

This man was preparing and selling beeda made of sunambu, a cream of calcium, mixed with spices as cardamum, gulgandu, made out of honey and roseflowers and betel nut rolled up in a betel leaf at the corner of the South-Gate of the Meenakshi Temple.

Eating this prepared leafs stills the hunger or helps the digestion and has a sweet taste.

This is the common beeda used by all people ,ladies and children.

In the more spicy ones, Zarida beedy, some soft drugs are added giving a slight gear in the head.

A pan shop like this one is not from Tamil origine but rather from the North. In Tamil Nadu they used to chew on the beetle-leaf with tabacco.

Everywhere you go in Madurai you'll find small vivacious street markets. Farmers bringing their goods to the big city.

So if you have an onion soup today, you can use this one as a background apetizer :)).

A lot of these old ladies stay very active life long, their long life !

One of my personal favorites, I hope you enjoy this one too.

On the way to Vaigai-Dam we stopped to have a tea-break while it was drizzling slightly and my motor-bike-glasses became wet.

Across the street there was a workshop of cupper kettles so just before we went back on track when the rain stopped, I was tempted to fix this scene with a zoom from across the street.

Admiring the latest model in the Enfield Company’s showroom, while I was waiting for mine, I saw the whole street reflected in its tank and I couldn't resist showing you this detail.

Chennai bought the rights to the Royal Enfield name in 1995. Royal Enfield production continues, and now Royal Enfield is considered as the oldest motorcycle company in the world still in production and Bullet is the longest production run around model.

Colors of the night.

While the main street to the Mariamman Temple is overcrowded, the small streets aside are still peaceful and pleasant to sit outside, saying hello to passengers. A mysterious man in the dark.

A local fisherman.
Reparing nets, a daily job after the catch.

Aside all the shops and the hotels in the center of Kayakumari, you still got the rural fisherman area, a peaceful spot, a perfect hide-away and a welcome relief from all the fuzz.

Here I felt myself at ease again .....

The Parotta team - Madurai

We had fun together, for a moment they could enjoy they daily task being spotted out. He was cleaning the hot plate to fry the parotta on.

For those who are wondering how it taste:
Ingredients
Maida-2 cup
Wheat Flour- 1/4th cup
egg-2
Milk-1/2 glass
soda powder-1/2tsp or 1 tsp
sugar-little
salt-little
oil

I'll spare you the preparation that you will find easily in google typing 'parotta' but whenever here you should taste a fresh fried one, marvellous, not spicy at all.
