GGOw standing on the snow-covered ground. I thought it was interesting to see how it hid its prey (if it caught one), glanced around in all directions, then grabbed its prey with its bill and took off.

GGOw plunging into the snow-covered ground. As mentioned previously, these owls can penetrate thick snow that can support a 175-lb person.

A capture of a GG's unique hunting behaviour. The plunging action can penetrate into the thick snow that could support a 175-lb person. No prey can survive that if it is directly underneath the owl.

Gerry B and I took a trip up north and we had a "great gray" day.

The leading shot is what we started with and the photo below is what we ended with for the day. Nice contrast in the weather eh! The lighting may be stale, but I think GGOw's look better in this sort of weather and lighting condition. Enjoy!
