I made Loco Moco last night and it was AWESOME! For those of you who are unfamiliar, Loco Moco is a Hawaiian dish of rice topped with hamburger, a fried egg, and lots of gravy. I've been obsessed with making it ever since I saw it on Man vs Food. :)

My antique nagoya obi featuring some treasures of the Seven Lucky Gods. Embroidered on it is the Magic Mallet, the hat of Invsibility, the Scroll of Fortune, and the Endless Purse. The tail portion has some calligraphy embroidered on it. What a cool, unique piece!

My newest addition: an antique irotomesode featuring phoenix in flight. It's quite old and a little more stained that I expected, but still totally wearable. It's gorgeous! I got it from Ichiroya. They said that because of the length of the kimono (it's very long for the time period it's from) and the padded hem, this possibly could have been a geisha's kimono instead of a traditional irotomesode. Pretty neat! I can't wait to wear it! :)

This Sphingidae moth was hanging out on my kitchen window for most of the morning. He was huge; about the size of the palm of my hand. he was very beautiful, though! I had never seen one of these before. :)

My kimono friends and I went to a special birding exhibit at the art museum today, and we were to wear bird-themed kimono if we had them. I had planned on wearing my peacock tomesode, but it ended up being 85 degrees today. Too hot for double-lined silk, padded hems, and embroidery! I had not brought another kimono with me, so my friend let me borrow this gorgeous taisho-era irotomesode that features a rooster. What a cool piece! I paired it with my tortoiseshell and kiku fukuro obi, a green obiage, and white obijime.

Our group had a Year of the Dragon Celebration of Friday. We had two ladies in kimono with corsets, one in an antique (possible geisha susohiki?) with a dragon theme, one in a komon, and myself in furisode. Quite a few curious eyes came in to look at us!
