The Shankaracharya temple in the Srinagar is on the hill known as Takht-e-Suleiman, which is abt 1100 ft and gives an awesome view of the city

One thing I noticed even before the Air India flight was landing @ the airport in Srinagar in Kashmir was the presence of the military , which was kind of odd for me as I never get to see them in my part of the country.

It must be tough on the kids living in the Kashmir Valley to live with so much of arms around them or probably they have by now got used it.

This was taken from a moving car ,Mom didn't seem to be bothered about the people in the car but the kid didn't mind posing for me.

Khardung La ...Ladakh !!

Khardung La is one of the highest motor able mountain pass in the Ladakh region. Road across the Khardung La Pass was constructed in 1972-73 by the army and it is important to India as it is used to carry essential supplies to the Siachen.

One gets to see bikers all through out the journey to this pass which is about 40km from Leh.Some of them where on bicycles, I was just wondering how they survived a gain in an altitude of almost 2200m.We decided to take the bicycles all the way up and cycle down from the pass to Leh as suggested by one of flickr member .

The downward journey was jus awesome,it was all down hill one doesn't even have to do a single peddle except for watching out for those turns and the cold wind that is too sharp.

I thought it would be tough to communicate with people in Ladakh as I dint know their language,but I was surprised to see them speak Hindi fluently and almost everyone spoke the national language compared to other parts of India where it is treated as alien .

One gets to see these prayer flags all through Ladakh.
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom.By hanging flags in high places the "Wind Horse" will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.

One was compelled to get those prayer flags as souvenirs and hang them in the balcony :-)

This is how streets of Charminar look on the eve of Eid (Ramdan)...I jus love to visit it particular during that day...as one can gets to feel the true spirit of Eid...where ppl jus flok around these roads to get the best deal .

Its sad to see the city (or state) to be on crossroads of uncertainty for separate state issues.

Had a chance to visit Delhi while going to Ladakh...one didn't dare to visit most of common places due to the weather conditions,coming from South India,facing Delhi 's climate was lil challenging .

India Gate looked terrificwith the evening skies .

The route to Pangyong Tso(lake) was awesome. One gets to pass through the picturesque villages of Shey and Thikse. The route then turns off the Indus valley passing through the side-valley of Chemrey and Sakti.You have to pass the world's third highest motorable pass "Chang la" ,where the Indian Army welcomes you with piping hot Ladakh tea.

You also have to cross a river called Pagal Naala or "The Crazy Stream" just before the spectacular lake opens up before you.

The Pangyong Tso is 134 km long and extends from India to China , 60% of the length of the lake lies in China and the balance 40% in India. Prior permissions have to be obtained from the authorities to visit the lake.

Night stay at this place is memorable,with a sky full of stars and a window which gives a view of the lake.
