3 exposures, f/5.6, ISO 100, handheld. It was a smokin' hot sunday afternoon in NYC when I shot this. I crouched down and waited for the crowds to pass before I snapped this shot. There are limitless locations to shoot in NYC. As a little summer project, I'm gradually working my way around the city capturing the best of NYC. What are your summer photography projects?

Belvedere Castle and it's surrounding turtle pond is a very surreal and painterly looking scene nestled in Central Park. A lovely little spot to get away from the city noise.

My first trip to the mythical Grand Central Station. I've seen it a million times in films, but to see it in person was quite impressive. On a Sunday afternoon, Grand Central Station was buzzing with bustling tourists and travelers. I didn't have a tripod so I had to put my camera on a ledge and MacGyver'd a mini tripod using a folded pamphlet and a wad of duct tape and snapped 3 shots with +2 exposure compensation and combined them in Photomatix.

A spectacular sunset over New York on a hot and stormy night.

I didn't have a tripod so I just used the one RAW file to create 3 different jpgs (exposing the sky, buildings & one inbetween) and combined them in Photomatix.

Another snap from my Vegas trip. Vegas is certainly an interesting place to shoot. There is no shortage of colourful venues... The Venetian is perhaps my favourite place to shoot... It's so faux fabulous in such a deliciously tacky way, you can't help but snap hundreds of picts.

The lighting was uber crappy and dark, so I actually set up a 3 exposure HDR shot, but there was too much movement with the two boats, so I ended up using the darkest shot and fake HDR'd it in PS. The image isn't tack sharp... something I couldn't see in frame when I shot it, but I can't go back now, so I'll have to live with it... curse my perfectionism :|

On my last day in Austin, I skipped the SXSW parties and went out on a photowalk adventure with my friend Scott.

I'm really glad I got to see some of the sights this time. Austin is an amazing city to shoot :)

From the Parliament buildings in Victoria to the Houses of Parliament in London....

Really enjoying working on these nighttime HDRs - it's something I've never really shot before...but I have to say I really miss photographing people, so hopefully I'll get back to shooting portraits soon when I have a bit more time.

In other news, my iPhone photo app, Camera+ is back in the Top 10 US charts! Yay! Such a roller coaster ride being in the iTunes store...

Finally got out to see London...well at least the touristy bits...on Superbowl Sunday!! That shows my dedication to sports :P

Westminster Abbey was quite spectacular and quite a popular destination for sightseers with the Royal Wedding coming up. It was quite difficult to get a shot without tons of ghostly people trails, but I managed to out wait most people to grab this shot.

I compiled 3 images: 4, 8, & 15s at f/8.0, ISO 100 using Photomatix and tweaked the colours in Photoshop.

My first visit to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in NYC. The spiralling interior looks amazing from almost any angle and I should know since I took about 200 pictures of it :P

Such a fun place to explore lines and composition, especially with a wide-angle lens. Kinda wish I had the 15mm fish-eye to capture even more abstract shots.

Last night I went to a schmoozy Tourism BC event at the Vancouver Art Gallery (BC Pavillion) and I had an amazing view of Robson Square and the Ignite the Dream light show for the 2010 Olympics.

I captured the light show on video with my 5DMKII and it looks super sweet. I’ll put that up in a bit.

The domed structure is a gorgeous ice rink where you can skate for free during the Olympics!

I couldn't help but get a little trigger happy. Such incredible photo ops during this Olympics. Wish I had more time to shoot!

My first HDR.

As you know, I’ve been quite vocal about my dislike for HDR photos. I’ve always found them too surreal and kinda weird. Deep down I felt bad that I was being super judgmental about HDR without actually knowing anything about taking or processing HDR photos.

This weekend my mum and I trucked up to Campbell River for a photography workshop, Photographer's at Painters and I met Darren Stone, Times Colonist photographer and HDR guru. He convinced me to at least try HDR once. And I did. And it was really fun. And now I kinda like HDRs. Now, you can all be smug.

Another fun day exploring London. The day was grey, so my night shots came out better again. Also, I much prefer shooting when there aren't piles of tourist clambering to get a shot in front of touristy places. Tomorrow, I'm going in search for untouristy spots. ;)
