Fighting the blaze

The Schwelm Fire Department was alarmed on monday eve at 20:11 o'clock to a structure fire. Inside the 8m*40m building in the Carl-von-Hagen-Street. Inside the building was a synthetic material factory and a motorbike repair shop. All 3 platoons of the Schwelm FD, a SCBA Unit of the county, an hazmat detection unit from Gevelsberg, an hose unit from Wuppertal and two platoons from Ennepetal (+decontamination unit) and Sprockhövel were at the scene - ca. 130 firefighters. The DRK (German Red Cross) had warm meals and drinks in their incident tent . The incident ended at 05:00 in the morning.

31.08.2009 .Wohnungsbrand in der Kaiserstraße mit 4 Toten (schwangere Mutter, Vater, Kind (10 Monate), Kind (3 Jahre)) und 2 überlebenden weiteren Kindern. Die FEUERWEHR SCHWELM war mit sämtlichen Kräften vor Ort, des Weiteren kamen mehrere überörtliche Einheiten. Im späteren Verlauf übernahm ich die Fotodokumentation bei der diese Fotos entstanden.

31th august 2009. Flatfire in the "Kaiserstraße", sad end: 4 people dead (pregnant mother, father, child(10 month), child (3 years)) and two other children, who survived this catastrophic fire. All units of the SCHWELM FIRE DEPARTMENT were at the scene, as also units from other cities. Later my function was to do the photo-documentation where I took these photos.

Factory fire at a scrap dealer.

Here's a photo from a 24 hour tour of duty (29-30 Aug 2009) involving Junior Fire Fighters in Schwelm, Germany. Their tour began at 07:00 and lasted a full 24 hours.
Incidents were planned throughout the day and night so the Juniors (sometimes called Explorers in the USA) could experience the work of a real full-time fire fighter.
This particular event was overshadowed by an apartment fire during the night, where 4 people died and 2 children survived.

Das ist ein Foto des 24 Stundendienstes / Berufsfeuerwehrtages der Jugendfeuerwehr Schwelm am 29 und 30 August 2009. Dienstbeginn war Samstag um 7 und endete (offiziel^^) Sonntag um 7. Über den gesamten Dienst waren Einsätze geplant um den Jugendlichen einen Einblick in die Arbeit eines "richtigen Berufsfeuerwermanns" zu geben.
Der BF Tag wurde von einem schweren Wohnungsbrand in der darauffolgenden Nacht überschattet, bei dem 4 Menschen (+ ein Ungeborenes) starben und 2 Kinder überlebten.
