Well, what an end to a sunny day!

As I reached the shore the sun slid behind a dark cloud. Above me fluffy white clouds and blue sky, in front of me a few dark clouds.

This effect produced what I think of as "two skies in one". On the left the sunlight burst out, creating an almost metallic sheen on mudflats and sea. On the right, the familiar blue and white reflected shades on the water.

Taken a couple of hours or so after the previous shot of Ingleborough, from the new Stone Jetty.

**My apologies for being late with comments. Last night and this morning Flickr has been so slow, and it has taken me ages to make just one comment.

I thought I would show this scene, to illustrate how our landscape looks under mid-winter skies.

The grass is still green, although the colder weather these past few weeks has restricted its growth.

The land slopes quite steeply from the hillside, down to the valley floor where a part of the River Lune can be seen as it flows from the Old Dub towards the Crook. On the far side of the valley Aughton Wood can be seen on the right, with Halton Park towards the left.

The sky was lovely just before sunset. Great rays burst upwards and contrasted with the heavy swells of the full tide.

Within a few minutes all this changed; the tide started its turn, the rains came and I went home!

This shows one view along the series of footpaths leading from Tunstall to Cowan Bridge. On a fine sunny day in summer, this is a lovely walk with views of the fells in Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales.

I took this a few days ago, at sunset. There was a huge dark cloud over Cumbria, apparently there had been flash flooding that day in parts of the Lakes, and the sun sank into that cloud.

Above me a blue sky with drifts and wisps of cloud; quite a contrast!

Taken at Hest Bank a couple of nights ago, the sunshine just caught the far channel (probably the Kent Channel) turning it red. The wind was strong, but this scene looked so tranquil.

A field of stubble, waiting for the time to spread the manure and, in due course,plant the crop. Each year the maize grows high in this field. I see it often as I walk down to the river.

Today, inbetween snow flurries and in an interval of sunny calm, the whole scene looked lovely. Across on the other side of the valley, the sun caught the woods and pastures of Halton Park.

Taken between snow flurries, this shows a seemingly lovely warm balmy day.

Ha! It was so cold, strong East Wind & occasional falls of snow. The snow did not stick here by the sea.

Away from the seashore, further inland, the higher ground is covered in snow, lanes full of drifts....

Taken last year, one balmy Autumn day when the bay looked at its best. Blue sky, shapely clouds, tidal pool....

I decided on B&W for this, as I feel that medium suits stony, pebbly ground.

The sunset last night was so impressive; the sky ever-changing, layers and drifts of colour and clouds.

It was cold, very cold, not far off freezing when I took this shot (at least my fingers thought so); the moor was covered in crunchy frost. All very beautiful.

I have often seen this old jetty, sometime almost submerged by the tide, sometimes left high and dry out in the bay.

As the tide was well out I walked to it; it is much longer than I imagined, the wooden stumps are visible for quite a way.

Seen on the approach, on a fine sunny October day with the clouds reflected so clearly in the tidal pool, it looked rather fine.

The sunset last night was a breezy and wonderful affair. At this time of year the sun sets much further along the far Cumbrian Coast , probably along the Furness Peninsula, so this is a very long range view!!

The sky was wonderful and once more I marvelled at what blows over these islands of ours.

Living by the sea - Explore

I thought I would include a "backward" view from Hest Bank. This is where I take so many sea and sunset shots from, and usually I face the sea. So, this is just one view taken as the sun was setting one very windy, exhilarating evening at the end of July.

The land in the foreground is being eroded by the power of the tides and I suppose eventually the house will stand up there with just mudflats in front of it. Let us hope that is many decades away!
