Working Beauty

Sailing as part of the working guests aboard The Californian, the official tall ship of California, is a beautiful adventure. You live a rustic life as you sail up the coast toward Catalina, hauling lines, navigating the ship, scrubbing decks, and standing watch in the dead of night.

But, it's also a beautiful escape.

An escape from The World, and even though you are working hard keeping the ship in line and on course, you also start to feel everything relax and slow down.

The beauty of this shot is many things to me. The cord curled perfectly at the chest, the wonderful smooth tones of her skin, the unseen smile of bliss beneath the black textured hat. But the most beautiful thing to me is this brief moment captured of the woman with one gloved hand in repose. It reminds me that she will pop up in a few minutes and haul a line or climb the rigging to keep the adventure going on to the horizon.
