I've passed the half-way mark! I was actually preparing to do another macro this week, but Archie refused to leave me alone and kept trying to eat the intended subject. So I switched lenses and turned the lights on him!

A macro shot, taken with the reverse mount lens, of my purple zoom groom. Though it is remarkably effective at collecting loose hair from the boys' coats, they won't put up with it for more than a few minutes.

This weekend I walked over to Paramount to take in Paris Photo, a huge exhibit of international photography. The weather was beautiful, and they'd done a great job converting the backlot into a collection of little gallery spaces. This vase of sunflowers was enjoying the afternoon light in the window of one of the many brownstones.

For the week of T.

The dry side of the dam at the Hollywood Reservoir is actually pretty cool, with little bear heads jutting out from the supports. I took this during the middle of a run, with the "track" being the path around the lake and across this dam.

A tight shot of a 1935 Sparton “Nocturne” radio, on display at LACMA. I love the pale blue of the mirrored glass contrasted by the chrome detailing.

For the week of R: Respite. This week, I had the pleasure of meeting up with some of my dearest friends to enjoy high tea and a walk through the Huntington Gardens. The afternoon, though short, was a perfect break from the daily grind.

Got a new lens this week: 85mm f/1.8. So excited! I've already noticed that it makes it easier to shoot the boys because I don't have to get so close as to spook them.

For the week of P. I just got an umbrella to play around with. The umbrella itself was more interesting than the subjects I was going to light with it, though, so I followed that impulse to this shot.

I actually set out to photograph "opalescent." I didn't really like any of the shots that were closer to that original idea, but I loved this one. Perhaps this is really just an expression of my life-long obsession with the Rorschach test.

For the week of N: Natural Light.

I took advantage of the afternoon sun to photograph the warm tones of my wood floor reflecting off the white door frame. I guess I wasn't completely spoiled by my time in the Caribbean, as the warm February in Los Angeles still felt like a treat!

For the week of J: Jump! Both literally, and in that I forced myself to jump into using Photoshop. I've been itching to get textures back into my photos, but I didn't want to revert back to Snapseed, so it was on to Photoshop!

For the week of I. Again, no formal theme choice, though this could fit with "identity."

This shot was taken at Cafe 50s, a restaurant with a clear sense of identity, that has modeled itself as a 50s diner. The walls are lined with advertisements and magazine clippings from the era, and every table is equipped with a mini jukebox selector like this one. I've been there a number of times (they have awesome milkshakes!) and I never get tired of reading the walls.

For the week of H. Again, we never settled on a theme. On Saturday, we were having lovely weather so I sat out on the balcony with Archie. It's almost impossible to get him to sit still - he must have been momentarily captivated by a noise in the tree when I got this shot!
