Lions, Sunset Dam, Kruger, South Africa.
Across Sunset dam I saw a larger animal on the move and the binoculars helped to identify two male Lions. They moved closer, stopping to drink at the water's edge in nice early golden sunlight. After a short while they traversed the edge of the water and appeared to be making their way towards our car. By this time there were probably ten cars watching so we quickly maneuvered to a position where I thought they would emerge and give us the prime vantage point. Luck (and I’d like to think a bit of judgment) was with us and they emerged less than 20 metres away and strolled right past the car within 2 metres of us, pausing briefly to stare in at us. A really great start to the day.

Lion Snarling

Lion snarling, Skukuza, Kruger, South Africa.
A late afternoon drive from Skukuza took us towards the Olifants waterhole where, on the return leg, we came across three immature lions chewing on a Leopard Tortoise by the side of the road. It was our lucky day with the vehicles in front jockeying for position the Lions got up and walked to the side of our car before lying back down again, this shot was taken as they moved up close to us. We spent a good ten minutes watching and photographing their attempts to open up the Tortoise before having to leave to get back to camp on time.

We were told about a Lion & Lioness mating near Letaba & promptly set out to find them. I understood that they would mate frequently over a period of days so we sat & waited. This was taken minutes after the event - he looks quite content with life !

This lion & lioness were resting at the side of the road around midday in Kruger park. A hunch told me to hang around a while as if they are mating they will repeat the act on a regular basis for a coiuple of days. 30 minutes later they moved off, turned their backs & the result was the photo you can see.
