An image I took on the evening of December 27, 2012 and showing the last full Moon of 2012 raising over the iconic symbol of Rome, the Colosseum, adorned with a big Christmas tree. The construction of the Colosseum started between 70 and 72 AD under the reign of Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus.

The image shows the lovely conjucntion above the eastern horizon early this morning. Near the left bottom of the frame is Mercury just over the colorful twilight glow while Venus is shining left of the Moon’s sunlit crescent. The scene is completed by the silhouette of the Basilica of Saint John Bosco

L'immagine mostra la congiunzione tra Mercurio (in basso a sinistra), Venere e una sottile falce di Luna, ripresa poco prima dell'alba sopra la Basilica di San Giovanni Bosco.

I took this image this morning. The yellow Hunters Moon setting over the Alps kissed by the first light of the day was a stunning spectacle! The mountain visible in the picture is Rochemelon (11,608 ft or 3,538 m), in the Italian Graian Alps.

The show put on by the Perseid meteor shower early this morning over the Remaiolo beach (Isola d’Elba) was really great! Here you can find some fireballs captured during the photo session.

La scorsa notte lo sciame meteorico delle Perseidi ha offerto uno spettacolo eccezionale sulla Spiaggia del Remaiolo (vicino Capoliveri, Isola d’Elba)! Ecco alcune dei bolidi più brillanti catturati durante la sessione fotografica.

This morning my daughter Rebecca and my niece Adele did not want to miss the sky show and joined me to admire the conjunction from the beach of Lido di Dante (Ravenna, Italy). And our early wake has been very well rewarded! – Questa mattina mia figlia Rebecca e mia nipote Adele non hanno voluto perdersi lo show offerto da Giove, Luna e Venere sul cielo sopra Lido di Dante (Ravenna).

The image shows a lightning display that occurred during a severe thunderstorm on September 2nd over the peninsula of Cap Ferrat next to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Villefranche-sur-Mer (Côte d’Azur, France). The left side of the image is brighter due to the presence of the gibbous Moon shining upper in the sky. To make this shot, I set my compact camera on wall and took a single 60-second exposure

Transit of Venus at sunrise at Lido di Dante

The sight of the Sun-Venus combo rising together from the sea this morning made me forget very soon the 5 hours travel I needed in order to reach the Lido di Dante beach (in North-East of Italy). This sunrise was by far the more exciting, thrilling and emotional among all those I had the fortune to admire!
