Had a trip to Brighton this week to look at a possible venue for our wedding. The weather was fantastic (apart from the wind) so I took a quick snap of my beautiful fiancee, as she was dressed for the coast.

Occasionally I see military chinook helicopters flying overhead close to my home, but in this instance I saw them in central London. I tried to make the scene much more eerie/gritty than it really was.

I forgot to post these from Paradise Wildlife Park a while ago. I don't know why I forgot to post these, as cheetahs are my favourite big cat (or biggest of the small cat family). They are so sleek, lithe and beautiful. I dream to visit Africa and see one hunting, running full speed.

We are on British Summer Time, it's Easter, we have had lamb for dinner, the crocuses (croci?) are out, but where is spring!? It's freezing out!

Kate In Snowdrops

Early this Spring there was a big patch of snowdrops growing in a woodland area alongside a path I often walk my dog along. There were patches of light streaming through them, so on a dog walk, I had to get Kate in a ray of light and have a quick impromptu photo shoot. If only Kate wasn't wearing here 'Geek' T-shirt!

I couldn't really get these to work in colour, which is a shame because the light was lovely. The bold greens and skin tones didn't seem to work together, maybe because of the mixed lighting. I'm not sure.

Spicy Southern Chicken

I finally got round to making the blog post and editing the pictures for recipe 4 of our cook book, Spicy Southern Chicken. This is what we served with our guacamole, hence why it is repeated in the background here. This one is fun to make as you get to beat the heck out of the chicken with a rolling pin! So why not try it and get out some of your frustrations.

Some of the other pictures were better lit and from better perspectives, but I liked the wisp of steam in this one.

If you want the recipe and a to see a few more pictures, check out my blog post. Be sure not to over cook the chicken so it stays nice and moist.

Cook book recipe 3: Spicy Guacamole

Another very quick, easy and healthy dish today. More pictures and prep pictures can be found in the comments.

Having so much fun making and taking pictures of this dishes. Can't wait for the cook book to be finished! Will soon upload the pictures and recipe for the main meal for which this guacamole was an accompaniment, Spicy Southern Chicken.

Chorizo & Butter Bean Stew

Hi All, I have been absent from Flickr for a while, though I have been snapping away. However, I had to post these pictures as they are too delicious looking not to :D

No, Kate and I are actually putting together a picture-heavy cook book of all our favourite borrow, adapted and made up recipes. We are real foodies and love cooking together. I have to say, we are pretty good at it too. So, this will be an on-going project and I will share images as the are taken. Plus, if you like the look of our dishes and images, we will post a link to the book, which will be available to order at cost price. Our first effort was our scrummy home-made humus. You can see some pictures of this one Kate's stream here.

This dish is Chorizo and Butter Bean Stew, and it was awwwwwwesome! So full of rich, warming smoked paprika, hearty beans and sweet tomatoes and onions. It's so easy to make too and makes a great light meal or side dish, hot or cold. I would like your feedback on which picture to use in the cook book. There are a couple more options from Kate at the link I added above.

Here's the recipe:

200 grams chorizo, sliced
1 400g tin of butter beans (drained)
1 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
2 red onions, sliced
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 tsp smoked paprika
Olive oil for frying
Salt & Pepper to taste

Slice the chorizo and onions, and finely chop the onions. Place in a large frying pan over medium heat and fry in the olive oil until onions are softened. Then add in the paprika, some salt and pepper, tomatoes and butter beans. Cover and leave to simmer for 20 minutes on a low heat. Try sauce and add more salt/pepper/paprika to taste.

This small version lacks some of the luminosity and is sharpened too much for my liking (the clouds and water look unreal), probably because of the compression applied by flickr. The large version is much closer to my original file and, to my eye, is much better for it.

Taken with an old Helios 44-M 58mm f/2 M42 mount adapted to EOS. The lens has the most distinctive swirly bokeh (not evident here) which can look hypnotising and beautiful or headache-inducing. Very cool lens though. As you can see here, it also suffers from massive flare!

A picture of one of the primates at Paradise Wildlife Park. I hope to finish a few more and create another blog post soon. I like taking pictures of primates as they are so expressive. You can recognise their emotions as they are so closely related to us.

Kudos to the 5D mark III for this shot too, iso 12800 and perfectly usable!

Shere Beauty

Kate and I recently took a trip to a local zoo. It's not massive but they have some beautiful animals, particularly big cats. I am most in love with the cheetahs, as they are so pretty and graceful. I will post some pictures soon (in a blog post). The lions (and they have white ones) are awesome in their size and power. We hear one roaring in its bedding area during a tour and the sound reverberated around the room and vibrated in your chest. I would certainly be terrified if I heard that in the wild! However, I think the most beautiful big cat has to be the tiger. Just look how majestic it is. My first blog post from the visit will be big cats, followed by one on primates, then one with mostly meerkats (another of my favourite animals) with miscellaneous other species. So stay tuned if you think you might be interested.
