Hi Flickr-

Wow. It's been awhile.

What I've been up to in the new year:

1. I started my second semester of my junior year of college.

2. I'm applying to the BFA program on April 12th.

3. I got accepted into the Juried Student Exhibition at my university.

4. I attended the Society for Photographic Education National Conference in Chicago.

5. I made a Vine. (Caitlyn Witt)

6. I started taking an etching class and am loving it.

7. I started an internship at The Arts Commission and am learning A LOT.

8. Deciding I want to travel, I applied to work in New Mexico for ten weeks over the summer.

I hope your year has been going swell!

Grief

I had a concept planned today on the Five Stages of Grief but it did not pan out as planned. I finished it of course but I'm not satisfied. I do however quite enjoy this image of the 5th stage of grief, Acceptance.

It's hard to believe that on this day next week we will be celebrating Christmas. I'm enjoying this time with my family and our surprise pup Sophie. The holidays are filled with joy but also stress and sadness. Stress over what gifts to purchase and what money to purchase them with. Sadness for our family members who aren't here to celebrate this special day with us. But above all I think we are jolly. Jolly for all of the beautiful sounds and colors of the season. Jolly for the time we spend with our family members here with us. Jolly for the birth of Jesus Christ and for our extraordinary lives.

Be jolly.

My grandmother loved cardinals. We always gifted her cardinal decor and clothing. They are quite beautiful. On Saturday these two we're flying around the backyard. I was so thankful they let me capture this shot of them.

Sophie in the Morning

Almost SOOC just some minor correction in ACR. :)

Sophie is not used to used to being able to look out the window, such a city dog. :)

Watching The Campaign with my family. I love this movie. I recommend it if you're a Will Ferrell fan. :)

Have a nice Sunday. I'm hoping to work on some photos tomorrow and scan some of the film I developed over the semester.

Sleeping Sophie

We're dogsitting for a friend. :) Sophie has grown quite attached to my dad! She is a one year old beagle.

Today was my last final and I am finally on winter break! I can't wait to shoot all of these photo ideas that have been filling my head!

Elf on the Shelf

Who needs an Elf on the Shelf when you can have your very own Bethany or Caitlyn on the shelf? Elves sold separately. Batteries not included.

Finals are stressing me out. Though I only have one real exam I have project after project to compete by next week. It always gets this way at the end of the semester. It seems that professors wait to the last minute to throw everything on us. Just seven more days of school. I can do it.

I took a break from homework to go hang out with my cousin Bethany for a while. We were having fun making Jolly Rancher ornaments and just being silly when I thought of this idea. All of my little cousins have an Elf on the Shelf. It watches over them and reports bank to Santa on their behavior while getting into some mischief of its own. :)

Dear Flickr-

You amaze me. And there is not a single day that goes by that I am not inspired by each and every one of you. Thank you so much for the support on my last photo. I was overjoyed with the positive responses for this series both on here and on my 500px account. I am really becoming proud of this series. It has become more in these past few weeks than I could ever have imagined. Last week I submitted two of the photos(this one and the photo before) to a gallery in Chicago. I can't wait to hear back from them.

I have decided to apply to the Bachelor of Fine Art program at my university next semester. When I thought I was going to be a freelance artist I didn't think it was necessary but now that I just want to be an artist, I do. After I finish my bachelors I am going straight through to grad school to pursue my Master of Fine Art in hopes of one day becoming a professor of photography. That way I can fund my art making and still do what I love. I feel like I've grown more these past two and a half years of college more than I have in my 20 years of life. And its a great feeling too.

First of all, please don't think my stream is going to turn into some sort of porno or something like that.

I thought about this image for a very long time until I finally decided to post it here. I've had some questions about my new project the main one being; why? So I'm going to give you guys my artist's statement(1st draft) for this series to hopefully clear things up.

From now on I probably won't be posting this series on Flickr. I made a 500px account where some of them will be. I love Flickr and all of my wonderful contacts and friends but I just don't think this is the right place for them. My non-nudes will be posted on here still. :)

I am so happy with this series that it makes me emotional. I wouldn't be to this point or comfort level in my photography today if it wasn't for all of you. You are my constant inspiration and I want to thank each and every one of you. I've finally decided what I want to do with my life, and that's fine art photography. I want to make "art for art's sake". I want to display emotion in my work and have the audience feel it. I want what I've always wanted, to be an artist.

Here's the artist's statement:

A Blanket for my Bones is a body of self-portraits in which I explore the human body through digital photographs. Through this series I am also aiming to escape my comfort zone by shooting nudes.
These conceptual fine art photographs display my love for nature as well as the beauty of the human body. In this series I want to create “art for art’s sake”. I use my camera as a tool and the world as my canvas.

Here is the next photo in my most recent series. It felt so good to take a picture today.

I've only been shooting film recently as I'm in a black and white photo class. Its okay but I really don't like film. Its all too nerve-racking! I'm constantly afraid my roll of film wont turn out.

I've been exploring the option of getting a BFA degree instead of my current BA. I've decided that I no longer want to be a commercial or freelance photographer. I want to make art for arts sake. I'm toying with the idea of going to graduate school and getting a MFA or MA and becoming a professor. That would give me time and money to make my art. Decisions, decisions.

Falling for Fall

The weather has been so beautiful these last couple of days! I went home yesterday for the night and took some pictures. All of our leaves are changing color and it is so pretty!

Sorry I haven't been on much lately. I've been really busy with school. I also took a Little for my sorority and last week was big/little week. It was a lot of fun. :)

The 29th is the last day of my 365 project. I did take a photo every single day though I didn't post them all here. I learned a lot from the project. Mostly that I never want to feel rushed or pressured to create my work. I also never want to put something out that I'm not proud of. Photography is my passion, but I also have other commitments in my life most importantly college. Maybe sometime in the future is I get a spare year I'll try this project again. But for now I'm happy just creating.

Thank you to everyone who has ever viewed a photo of mine. Your support means so much to me. I love this community and you all are my constant inspiration.

The weather is gross. Its been raining for the past couple of days. It makes me tired.

I know, I know. I've been a complete loser lately. School has consumed my life. I'm never home. And though I have been taking pictures every single day, I'm not going to post them. I want my stream to display work I am proud of.

On the bright side, I am loving my film photography class. It's so different than digital and I can't say that I prefer it! I'll scan some of those images to show you soon.

This is Jack. He just turned one so his momma wanted some pictures. :)

I have some exciting news for you all. I think I've finally decided what I want to do with my life. I want to be an art director in the entertainment industry. For those of you who don't know what exactly that entails here's the Wikipedia article.

Yes, I think that is what I will grow up to be and it feels so good.

I'm at home for the holiday weekend. I'm so much more inspired when I'm at home in the quiet and open. Taking today's photo was so refreshing.

School has been crazy but great. I'm back to my crazy busy, schedule oriented self. :P

Beautiful Weeds

Today was my first day of my junior year of college It was great. My first class was Digital Interactive Media. My professor is having us keep blogs for the semester. I made mine through word press and you can follow along here. After that I had Professional Practices. I'm really excited for this because it's a crash course in everything I need to know to be successful in the "real" art world. Then it was on to Black and White Photo. We're shooting with old Nikon FM 10's. I'm excited for the semester. :)

I've been taking the photos for my 365 but its really difficult for me to find time to post everyday with my school schedule. I'll try my best!
