Couple weeks ago we had a "supermoon" which is when the full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth during it's elliptical orbit.

As I was down in cornwall, I thought St Michael's mount would be the perfect subject for this. Here, the moon was setting behind the castle as the first light of dawn began to show, giving a blue colour to the sky

I thought this may be a good time to repost this image. Everyone is posting their bluebell photos of the year, so I thought you might like to see something a bit more different.

I took this photo 2 years ago when I was living Essex. It is the only pink clover field I have seen in this country so far. It was a lovely spring morning with shades of pink everywhere from the flowers to the clouds in the sky.

We had a full moon the weekend I was in Cornwall. And combined with clear skies at night, this lead to some interesting night time photography.

This is taken at the Levant mine, near Botallack. The area is famous for the old engine houses that were used to ore Tin and Copper from underground. Even though the area is photographed a lot, I thought a moon light image would be something different.

The area was covered with pink thrift which stood out amongst the dark grass. I kept the image dark on purpose as that's how it looked even under a full moon.

I went to Cornwall for a few days last weekend. We were blessed with sunny skies - perfect weather for the beach, however not so much for photography.

During May cliffs all along Cornwall are lined with these colorful flowers, known as sea thrift. I have never been to Cornwall this time of the year, so it was a nice suprise to see so many flowers everywhere. This image was taken at Godrevy lighthouse sunday morning. It was another cloudless morning, so I decided to minimise the sky, and include more of the cliffs in the foreground. There were bigger clumps of thrift in other parts, but this section caught my eye with the thrift lining just along the cliff edge.

I wasn't sure whether to go with a 5:4 crop instead, so any feedback is appreciated.

The conditions were changing constantly, but a big gap over the western horizon gave me a long spell of sunshine as the sun set.

The first thing that got my attention in the area was this single tree with a rope swing on one of its branches. I just had to make use of this. Also, I think this would make a different picture than what we usually see (big open fields under blue skies, and white clouds). After walking up and down the field several times, I managed to come up with this framing.

I think all i needed was someone sitting on that rope swing.. anyone want to do some modeling? :)

Did you know there are more bluebells on British Isles than anywhere else? Every spring many woodlands on British Isles are covered with a purple carpet of flowers. This display lasts only few weeks and is an amazing sight to witness. It's a great experience to stand in the middle of this sea of purple, extending as far as the eye can see in every direction.

Even though it is a very popular subject among photographers, and difficult one to capture in a unique way, I couldn't resist not giving it a go myself. It may not be a misty morning with golden light columns passing through the trees, but I really like this view with bright green leaves of the trees and subtle light on the bluebells.
Bluebell Morning

Spring is definitely here, and this means lush green woodlands and blooming flowers. For the first time this year, I managed to capture bluebells in full bloom (or there abouts). The unsettled conditions are making a bit difficult to catch a clear sunrise these days, so when the conditions were right last weekend, I took my chance and drove to Micheldever Woods in Hampshire. It was a 2:30am start to get there in time for sunrise but luckily it was worth the long drive. I got few more photos from this morning but I haven't got around processing them yet, so watch this space!

Here is an image from my birthday last monday, taken at my local beach, Kilve. With the arrival of spring, sunset is due north over the water here, making this place my go-to spot for quick photography trips!

Kilve is located along the Bristol Channel which has the world's second largest tidal range - 14.5m. It is impressive to watch the tide come and go at this place, and despite witnessing it countless times, it still amazes me. It is also incredibly difficult work with as the landscape is continually changing, and you can never find it same in two different visits.

All along the coastline here, you can find these patterned paving stones. I never got around capturing one of these before as the tide was either wrong, or the light was not good enough. Last monday I was lucky enough to have the tide at the right level exposing these formations as the sun set, allowing me to capture them under a very colorful sunset sky!

I have been busy last few weeks with work and also out shooting in my spare time, so I didn't get a chance to post a new image for a while.

Here is an image from winter to make up for it. This is another one from the flooded Somerset Levels on a glorious misty morning. I was a bit late leaving the house, so I had to rush when I see the sky changing into very colorful. Walking in knee-high water is not very fast either unfortunately. But I managed to find this gate and come up with a composition before the colors faded.

Hope you like it.
Round and Round We Go...

etunar posted a photo:

I wanted to share this image I took few months ago with you. Fields around Burrow Mump are usually flooded after prolonged heavy rainfalls to prevent rivers bursting their banks. This creates a very picturesque environment, resembling an island in the middle of a lake and (hopefully) you have seen my other images from the same place taken during the day.

I had to wait over a year for the conditions to be right for this image - fields around Burrow Mump weren't flooded for a long time, and then they flooded so much that it was impossible to walk around so I had to wait for water levels to drop a bit. And the weather was either overcast or windy when the water levels were right..

So after months of waiting, I finally had my opportunity to have a go at this image. I am quite happy with the result, but what do you all think?

Patterns in the sky are streaks from the stars created as Earth rotates around on its axis. In the northern hemisphere, this rotation is centered around polaris (northeren star) which stays at the same position all the time. As you move away from polaris, earth's rotation becomes more apparent, creating longer streaks. In this image polaris is positioned just outside the frame, top right corner. Streaks are shorter towards the top right corner of the image. As you move away from the top right corner, you can see the streaks get longer.

This image captures about 1.5 hours of Earth's rotation. Image is made up of multiple 30 second exposures combined together to create the final image.

This was probably one of the most amazing snowdrifts I have seen. Also known as "sastrugi", these structures form as the snow is built up and eroded by strong winds. As the sun broke the horizon, light added an extra depth to the layers of the sastrugi.

The strong easterly wind kept blowing towards me, and the rising air kept condensing and creating clouds, coming below the ridge and passing over me. I had to time my exposure between these clouds to ensure the view below wasn't obsecured!

This is the view of Tryfan from Glyder Fach. Tryfan is probably the most impressive mountain in Wales if not in all of UK, standing over 3000ft. It almost looks like a jumbled pile of rocks - it still amazes me everytime I see it. I have to admit, this picture doesn't do it justice though , so I'll say capturing tryfan in all of its glory is sitll a work in progress for me.

I was in a wild camping trip in Snowdonia this weekend. I spent a couple of nights up on Glyderau range. Conditions were simply incredible. There were snow all the way from the valley level and after 600m - 700m, snow turned into ice. At the summit of Glyder Fach, everything was covered in a thick coating of ice. Glyderau range already have some bizzare rock formations, and combined with the ice and snow, it looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.

The warm light from the sunrise gave a golden yellow color the icy rocks. It looked like they were glowing within!

You don't see snow on a beach everyday - not even in Norway. But on this day, there were plenty of fresh snow covering the beach. I wanted to make use of the beautiful shapes on the snowdrifts and the grass sticking out of the snow. This is looking in the opposite direction towards the mountains. I was hoping for a bit more colorful sunrise but had to settle with a subtle red glow on the clouds.

Here is another snowy forest image, very similar to one I posted at the end of January but this time from Finland. Snow was over a meter deep here, which made walking around very difficult even with snow shoes. It wasn't as dramatic as the one I posted in January but I still like how the trees are perfectly straight and seem to go on forever.

Here is a panaromic view of Reina and Hamnoy at the end of Lofoten Islands. Two towns (or villages I guess) are made up of numerous islands connected by bridges. The area is surrounded by majestic granite mountains rising straight up from the sea.

This is taken from a small hill overlooking the area. To get a higher view of the area, you need to climb up the mountains which is not really possible at this time of the year due to avalanche risk. But I am thinking about returning here at the end of the summer to get the view from the top of the mountains!

By the way, this panorama is composed of 8 separate images stitched together create 82 megapixel image!
