The Serpent is a stealth tilt-rotor Gunship utilized by the European Union. Its design is focused on reducing the radar cross section and the VTOL´s heat signature. Therefore the Serpent has a dark and angular design, unlike all other EU aircraft. Depending on its armament configuration a Serpent can however also be used as multi-purpose Gunship rather than as stealth VTOL.

My entry for the Lego Military Annual Build Competition No Runway, No Problem category. Mostly based on StTheo Gunship artwork and stealth helicopters. Additionally again inspired by Carter and Corvin. Special thanks to Julien for editing!

The Gunship seats a pilot and a gunner, the pilot takes the frontal seat with the gunner behind him. If required, both the gunner and the aircraft´s pilot AI system can take control of the Gunship.

The full armament includes overall 8 missiles attached underneath the wings and an additional heavy machine gun underneath the cockpit. This increases the radar profile of the craft and is not recommended for covert operations.

Similar to the V-22 Osprey, the Serpent is a tilt-rotor VTOL. The two main turbines with 4 rotor blades each are counter rotating and the Serpent´s main propulsion for vertical and horizontal flight. The craft is however able to significantly increase its flight speed due to two additional engines in the crafts body. The air intakes are located next to and behind the cockpit. The exhausts are located underneath the wings and can additionally provide better stability in vertical flight.

"Dry rivers and urban decay in the Middle East were leading to similar migration movements as those caused by the Middle American Dead Zones. Following the American example of locking down the borders was no real option to solve this. Instead, advanced troops were deployed in order to significantly intervene into smuggler and refugee activities in Syria and Turkey. The most recent Sentinel version was to undergo further testing about this time and half abandoned and riot damaged towns turned out to be its playground for field tests alongside EU Spec Ops and the Advanced Infantry. Local governments are either forced to cooperate with the EU administration or had already previously been under its control."

I got the idea for this sort of Diorama after a little talk with Kingbrick about mechs kicking stuff, eventually resulting in a presentation Diorama for my Spec Ops Sentinel.

I tried something pretty much new for me on the road, using plates and tiles in sideways building to create really small gaps in the road surface. That worked pretty well alongside of 1x2 brick profile pieces.

Spec Ops Sentinel

"The Spec Ops Digital EU Sentinel Mk II Vertical Tank is the advanced version of the mass produced standard Sentinel. The major goal of designing the Mk II was to surpass the agility and flexibility of a normal Sentinel to suit the requirements of special operations in any given aspect. As a result, the Mk II has less and thinner armor, which is however sufficient as a unit is not only able to outrun enemy armored vehicles in urban combat, but also able to dodge incoming missiles. Additionally it can utilize its own physical shape and design as weapon, something which the Mk I was mostly unable of due to its armor and frontal combat focused design. Other differences to the standard Sentinel are heartbeat sensors located inside the Spec Ops Sentinel´s forehead as well as drastic changes in the AI system. The removal of moral control instances allows a Mk II unit to operate outside the rules of engagement."

Now with 100% more Gekko and a good portion of Rex.

The light of Rio at night was shining through the big windows of a skyscraper. Shortly after midnight, when the noise of shattering glass broke the unpleasant silence, EU Commandos were entering Namarra´s 45th floor penthouse. The dark rooms were empty and only the remains of the skylight were disturbing the almost medically clean look of the penthouse.

"Namarra must have been warned, he can´t have gotten far."

Prequel to this and theme of the past Purge challenge.

"Introduced in 2035 as part of a tactical response unit against militant resistance groups and riots in EU occupied Russia, the Sentinel Vertical Tank quickly made its way into full military deployment by 2037. During that time it was mass produced by the European Union, even though it violated various treaties, which were signed to significantly limit the use of independent AI controlled units with heavy armament. The Sentinel carries two HMGs firing .50 BMG ammunition for anti infantry use and optionally armor piercing rounds used against enemy vehicles as its primary armament. The secondary armament is a grenade and missile system covering the majority of the Sentinel´s head. Additional to its armament, Sentinels can utilize active countermeasures and posses smoke launchers to provide cover and protection for itself and nearby infantry. Various weak spots around the legs have been reinforced with additional armor plating. However unarmored mechanical elements underneath the head, relevant for the Vertical Tank´s greater agility compared to conventional ones, remain the Sentinel´s largest weakness concerning flanking high caliber fire. Each unit carries a radar system as well as thermal and optical cameras to provide a maximum of situational awareness even without recon planes or drones to guide the on ground combatants."

Most notably based on a Metal Gear Gekko and a Ceph Pinger. My goal was to create a mech that looks armored in an angular way while still having a sense of biological poses.

"Five hours ago, EU intel was leaked revealing the details of a covert operation in Rio. Apparently, the Union succeeded in determining the location of a priority target of ours. The urgent elimination of Namarra is required. EU Commandos have engaged already, there is no time to send in a strike team ourselves, do we have undercover units nearby to take him out?"

"Sir, Namarra has already left his penthouse, twenty minutes ago scouts entered the area to observe him. One of our officers previously warned Namarra that military units were closing in on him."

"Why was I not informed about that operation and who the hell authorized it?"

"Captain Blake, Sir, he entered Rio on his own and also mobilized a strike team four hours ago. We have lost communication with him, but we located his dropship on a small airfield five kilometers south of the slums."

"Keep track of the EU operatives and give orders to insert advanced units into Rio. It is essential to regain control of Blake before he gets Namarra, or even worse, before the Union does. Apparently he at least bought us some time regarding the latter option."
