Our house had a gorgeous pool in the back yard, and I swam every day. Hence the tan, and the bod. The unsubtle towel arrangement was my sister's suggestion (she took the picture).

I LOVED this bikini. It had chains of gold coins on the teensy sides, and made me feel quite gypsyish. [Taken in 1969]

I have no idea who took this picture of me, but I do know it was taken in 1970. I loved that mesh tank top, and nearly wore it out.

My bedroom decor was very representative of who I was (am). My grandmother made that quilt by hand. A friend painted the John Lennon portrait in art class. That's my favorite dress (I wore it a LOT). On the nightstand is a boxed set of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy in paperback. There's a stick of patchouli incense burning, and a miniature Chinese lantern. And I'm probably reading Siddhartha. Taken in 1970 with a Kodak Instamatic.

Update: A friend scrutinized the book, and says it's actually "Do It!" by Jerry Rubin, required reading for an idealistic young flower child.

This is not a costume. It was my favorite outfit at the time. The dress even had a Nehru collar. The medallion is turquoise, my birthstone. Taken in the fall of 1968 with a Kodak Instamatic.

comes this 1969 photo of me in my beloved pink dress. A high school acquaintance recently shared this with me via Facebook. This is, as far as I know, the only existing photo of this dress, which I loved more than cake.

It was pink, with brightly-colored flowers embroidered on the waistband and little pockets, a deep-scooped neckline and feminine puffed sleeves. My mom bought it for me at JC Penney, after I begged and pleaded. She felt it was too short, and she was not yet used to me being so shapely. For me, it was the quintessential hippie-girl dress, and I HAD to have it. I wore it so often, I'm amazed there aren't dozens of photos of me in it! To see it again after all these years makes me teary-eyed with nostalgia.

David never gave up trying to get me in bed. Most of the other girls jumped at the chance for a roll in the sack with him, but I had issues. That made me a challenge he couldn't resist. One of his lamest attempts was, "Don't you want to know what you're missing?" I knew. And it wasn't David.

Tommy was Sheryl's boyfriend for a short time. He was a strange guy, but very sweet. I've always loved the muted colors in this photo, which was taken on Palomar Mountain in 1971.

David and I were never a couple, but some of my photos certainly give that impression! This was actually posed. I looked at the path and saw this picture in my mind. David and I happened to have the "look" I wanted the subject couple to have. I think Sheryl actually served as proxy photographer; i.e., she snapped the shutter.

His name was actually Bob Sochowski, but only the guys called him that. All the girls called him Snuggles, because he was like a huge cuddly teddy bear. We adored him, although he wasn't anyone's boyfriend. Snuggles used to lift me off the ground when he hugged me, and he once squeezed me so tightly, it left bruises. Purely accidental, I assure you!

When we had our group reunion in 2005, Snuggles refused to attend, or even speak with any of us. I made a life-size enlargement of a photo of him, and we hung it on the wall. So we felt like he was there in spirit, anyway.

Timmy was a very cool dude. He loved everyone, and was held in high esteem not only for his sweet nature, but also because of his quintessential hippie appearance. I had a pseudo-sibling relationship with him, and called him "Little Brother."

Timmy had an exquisitely-beautiful girlfriend named Chrystal (and it was her REAL NAME!). When she got pregnant while still in high school, her parents made her give the baby up for adoption, and she was never allowed to see Timmy again. That happened quite often in those days.

This guy wasn't my boyfriend (who was out of state), but he wanted to be! He was attempting to "hustle honey" (as we called it back then), and I was just starting to say, "F#@k off, John." In the large size, you can tell my mouth is forming the F!
