As the Deer Thirsts

aleah michele posted a photo:

"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God." (Psalm 42:1-2)

A deer pants for water because it needs to satisfy its thirst, so it searches for something that will. Just like the deer, we all look for something that will quench the longing for something more. God is the thing that can satisfy. But the search for that satisfaction can be hard and trying, so all too often we give up and search elsewhere. No matter the source we come to we are left with emptiness, but sometimes it's easier to just accept the thirst and lack of satisfaction than to turn to God. We try to ignore the parched pain that always remains. This world is like a desert; water is difficult to find, and if we give up then death comes before we can find the water of true satisfaction.

"Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God." (Psalm 42:11)
