But this picture requires a little context.<br /> <br /> You see, Bolivian gray titi monkey Delasol is one of the zoo’s top moms. She’s given birth to nine offspring over the years at the Helen Brach Primate House, nurturing them all with expert care, including newest arrival AJ, born last August.<br /> <br /> AJ’s case was a little different, though, as Delasol had trouble producing enough milk to feed the little one. Our animal care experts ultimately decided it was necessary to separate the baby monkey from her family to provide the nutrients she needed.<br /> <br /> This change meant around-the-clock feedings from the building’s caregivers. AJ’s family was brought behind the scenes as well, living next door to the new arrival to keep the family together, at least visually. <br /> <br /> It was a lot of work, but AJ thrived. Last month she was successfully introduced first to her family and then to her exhibit at the Primate House. The whole family is together there now—a fitting tribute for Mother’s Day. Hence the flowers.
