day 3

Emily Tebbetts posted a photo:

day 3 of my 100 days of summer project!

paris is on my mind. travel is on my mind. there are so many places I want to go, so many people I want to meet. it would be an absolute dream if I somehow acquired a bunch of free miles and I was able to travel to places. airfare is basically the only thing holding me back.

paris is the first place out of the country that I'll have traveled to. then gent in belgium, to see trish! I hope this trip is the first of many :)

oh, ps: that thing I'm holding says paris on it :)

--
a quick note: I realized today that there will be days where it's really tough for me to get a photo. for example, days when I'm with my boyfriend (like today), so I don't like to take too much time out to take a photo so it'll be harder to get a creative one on days like those. or every friday and saturday, when I have work in the city and I'm either commuting or working for all the hours that it's actually light outside.

but I'm enjoying the push to be creative so far. maybe this lack of light 2 days a week will force me to explore new types of photography :)

day 26 - safety nets

Emily Tebbetts posted a photo:

the model in this photo is my sister. it's late at night, and that light is from a street lamp, which is why the ISO was so high and the photo so grainy, but that's the way I wanted it.

saturday was a tough day, but it was interesting too. I had work, and we usually sell about $2000 on saturdays, and they are always very busy. this one, though, we went until 6:30 only selling $370. it was unbelievable! the store was a bit dead, the streets were dead, and the people coming in weren't the right type of customers-- they'd either walk in in a rush and walk out fairly quickly, say they'd come back, or bought something small, like jewelry or toys. the whole day I was in disbelief over the horrid sales, and I was just praying we'd somehow get out of it. the store closes at 8, though, and I leave at 7, so I had pretty much accepted that we were barely making anything that day. just then, a couple comes in saying they've been looking all over for this specific kind of bridesmaid gift, and it just so happens our store had what they were looking for. their purchase made our daily total at least reach $1000, which is still bad for a saturday, but it could have been SO much worse.

I left in hopes of catching the 7:38 train home, and if I didn't make it, the next one wasn't til 8:38. the subway took forever, and when I actually got to WTC to take the PATH, it was 7:15 and no trains were there. since the PATH ride is 22 mins and we have to change platforms to catch my train home once we get to newark, I was thinking there was no way I'd make it. a PATH train came at 7:15 and departed right away, though. even when I was on the PATH train with a glimmer of hope, I realized that because of a weird circumstance that I won't bother explaining, I didn't have my return ticket yet. if you buy it on the train, you have to pay $5 more and they only accept cash. I only had $3 cash with me, so I'd HAVE to use the ticket machine in order to ride my train home. I was 99.9% positive that I wouldn't be able to catch the 7:38 train (considering, if things ran on schedule, the PATH train would get in at 7:37 and then I'd have to change platforms and purchase a ticket).

well. we miraculously got there at 7:35, and there was one ticket machine open, so I had JUST enough time to make it on the train. amazing, in my mind.

the whole day felt like this-- high hopes, then extremely logical expectations of failure/doing bad, then working out, miraculously, at the very last moment. it was really an interesting day because of that.

and that's why this grainy, dark photo with hands blinding is appropriate to me. as logical as my forethought was, I was blind all day, and somehow my logical predictions were proved long (thank god).
