Taken atop Fort Rock, named by Meriwether Lewis in 1805, and located in present day Headwaters State Park.

The Lemhi-Shoshone, Sacagawea's people, traditionally camped, hunted, and fished near here in late summer. The Lewis and Clark Trail runs through here as well. Hence, Clark recorded this spot as one of the first within their travels westward that Sacagawea recognized from her earlier time with the tribe prior to her abduction.

It is also one of the few places in Montana where there is little snow in winter, as evidenced by this photo taken in early February.

Truman Gulch can be a bit crowded on a Sunday afternoon these days with Hyalite and South Cottonwood Trails to the south closed due to the Millie Fire.

But then, I guess in the past, moments like this, where more people are in a single frame than you would see in an entire day on the trail, wouldn't have happened.

Taken near the Granite Mountain Memorial in the hills above Butte, Montana. The colors are much warmer due to the light at sunset. Note the dirt on it's beak from digging. Hence "miner" bird and naturally in Butte.

Paradise Lost

Yet another unfinished (but lavishly started subdivision) in the Bozeman Pass.

I remember those days of developers who built and stood upon their perfectly placed platforms; and regaled the beauty of their chosen spots, and predicted how asphalt and dirt movers would tame and shape their land into a golden beauty of a tax base.

And they languished in the money and the applause and good wishes of the gathered community leaders, and bankers, and financiers...and now, well, that day has come and gone.
Unfortunately the crash of '08 took the polish off their promises and their golden dreams.

And the podium from which those future promises were delivered, now sets in a photo of an otherwise pristine landscape.

(Along with one other structure in which one whose heart swelled in that day (and whose pocketbook deflated) in exchange for a promise of paradise in the Bozeman Pass.)

How soon we forget the lessons of paradise lost.
