An abandoned homestead, overgrown with weads and long-dead trees. This is the garage, they weren't attached way back then. There are lots of large, but very dead trees on the lot. I bet it was a pretty country house, long ago.

Johnson Mesa Church

The Saint John Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1897 on Johnson Mesa in NE New Mexico.

I used three textures by Skeletalmess: Beneath the Surface, Painterly Effect2, and Nirvana.

Train yard and grain mill in Clovis, NM.

On an overpass over the tracks, in the wind, in 30 degree temps. Handheld, shivering, no feeling in the toes and fingers, nose running.

16mm, f/10, 1/800.

I made explore! I consider this a victory since I started out with a ho-hum photo, and I've heard that textured photos never make Explore.

The old abandoned church in Taiban, NM. A fascinating building! I keep coming back to it over and over.

I couldn't find the "perfect" texture, so I went back to Skeletalmess' tutorial, and used it here again.
Still not exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something old and rustic.

Fire Dept in Maple, Tx

Old fire truck in an abandoned garage, attached to an abandoned grocery store. Found in the ghost town of Maple, Tx. The only sign of life in the center of town, was in the still functioning cotton gin.

Ghosts of Christmas' Past

It's weird to find things like this in abandoned farm houses during the Christmas season. I didn't touch or stage anything in this scene. The roof is caving in, wood floor is rotting. There's no WAY anybody went inside and set this up. I shot it through a window in the side of the house. The tree is half buried under what was the ceiling. Maybe it was up in the attic at one time, or maybe it was actually set up when the family left (sad).

Texture is "Bruised Ego" by the great Skeletalmess.

Fort Sumner - Peter Maxwell's house. As Pat Garrett sat on the side of Pete's bed asking where Billy was, Billy came into the room to see who was there talking to him. Pat shot him in the dark.
After reading "To Hell on a Fast Horse" by Mark Lee Gardner, I found that Pat wasn't the bad guy I thought he was after all.

Meadowlark in Bitter Lake National Wildlife Reserve. Heavily textured with one from Skeletalmess Painterly Effect # 81 and one of my own - actually another shot of the trail at the NWR.

My treatment recipe:
Process the photo normally (just the bird on the sign and a blue sky zzzzzz) and made a “stamp visible” copy (to save for later, you’ll see why in a minute)
Layer 1- Add Painterly Effect on Overlay at 92% opacity
Layer 2- Add 2nd photo of the trail/trees on Hard Light at 65% opacity, with selective erasing around the bird
Layer 3 - Changed the hue of Painterly Effect to a purply color, and desaturated it. Then added as the 3rd layer with Linear Light at 65% opacity, again with selective erasing.
Layer 4 - Moved the “Stamp visible” copy I made earlier to the top layer, set it on Soft Light at 31% opacity.

This is the back of the building, the door over in the corner led to the dance floor (the foundation is still there) Black Jack Ketchum was a patron.

Deer in the Bosque del Apache NWR. We saw many birds, including Eagles. I gave my son a list of critters to find me; deer, 'coon, bobcat, and cougar. We didn't see the cats :-( It was a great day, and I hope to go back again.

I met an old man in Ancho who owns much of the property around here. He told me his mother-in-law (who is buried up the hill in the cemetary) rented this house out to the ranch hands.

My recipe for this one:

Layer #1 set to Multiply, opacity 100%
Layer #2 set to Multiply, opacity 82%
Layer #3 Stamped copy of the house without the textures (alt/ctrl/shift/E) set to Overlay, opacity 30%
Layer #4 set to Soft Light, opacity 82%, only some erasures in the places around the wall at 50% opacity
Layer #5 was a blank new layer, set to 50% gray, and I added a Craquelure texture in PSE filters.

A meadowlark in Ned Houk Park. Texture by Skeletalmess (who else?)

Texture "recipe":
"All Hell Breaks Loose" by Skeletal mess, flipped vertical and horizantal
I used it in two different layers, the first layer set to "Overlay" at 55%, the second layer set to "hard light" at 82%.
