He was so happy to see the sunrise! It has been a very long time since I photographed Plankton! He was very miffed and uncooperative, but finally I got him to oblige. Even toys can't resist a good sunrise over the lake!

It has also been a long time since I posted a Toy on Thursday! *gasp* In fact ... the last time I posted was way back in January, and ... incidentally, that one was taken in Chicago too!

Plankton has traveled to a lot of places, and we {he & I} realized: he's never been to his hometown!!

So off to Chicago for a sunrise! I am guessing that most of you will recognize this iconic backdrop ("The Bean") in Millennium Park ... though probably not ever like this!! As I pulled Plankton out of my backpack ... this fake mustache fell to the ground. Naturally, he begged to wear it for this shot!

And why would I have a fake mustache in my backpack you ask? I 'forced' all the cousins into a mustache photoshoot over the holidays. {see all the silly shots in comments} The one Plankton is sporting is the one Jackie used!

Sorry I haven't been around much ... who knew that a 'job' could be so time consuming!! They've asked me to work extra days (a good thing for the bank account ... but not for Flickring)!! I shall catch up tonight ... just had to post a toy today!!

Thanks to everyone for the Flickr ♥ love ♥ yesterday on my sister's post. It really means a lot to me. I realize it was a sad post; so I thought that a happy post was in order for today. Plankton is a little upset to be usurped by a snowman on his favorite day of the week; but I told him to "just get over it!"

This was my Christmas present from Jackie. She secretly crocheted this for me … and I was all giddy when I ~~calmly~~ savagely ripped open the package on Christmas morning!! I collect snowmen so this one is extra special.

I thought I'd let you know that she also took this photo. I loved it when I walked in from work today and saw her 'studio set-up!' Not only is she a talented amigurumi artist, but she takes pretty darn good photos too!! I gave her my old 'nifty fifty' when I bought the newer version for my camera. At that time; I also instructed her on shallow depth of field. I think she successfully completed that chapter of instruction!

I'll be catching up to folks tonight & tomorrow ... after all, this is my 'FRIDAY'!!

This was taken at Baker "clothing optional" Beach. As you can see, Plankton fit right in ... he has no shame. At least Wage was a bit more modest with his loincloth!! :-)

Hate to post & run but Plankton (and I) ... just couldn't miss Toy Thursday! Thanks for the well wishes on the new job. It is going to work out perfectly!! I have tomorrow off, so I'll be catching up then!!

Plankton had the opportunity to play tourist for a day ... and good thing Plankton is on this side of the glass since he is a primary food source for jellyfish!! Plankton and I made quite a 'splash' setting this shot up at the Monterey Aquarium!! I was inspired by the silhouetted children!

On October 30, 2011, a Special Forces team stormed Cook's Meadow in Yosemite and took possession of a strategic bridge over the Merced River. Joining forces with Plankton and Duckie are Irene's Assault Team: Babo & Wage!

To become a part of the Army's Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, the toys needed to be mentally agile, astutely aware and physically tough, endure difficult training and face all challenges head on. I'd say, that with Plankton as their leader, they have successfully exhibited all of these traits!!

I had a blast hanging out with Larry and his family last weekend! We did a lot of shooting and of course you know I had to bring Plankton out for the fun! Here he is hanging out (OK fine: jammed into) ... the dock! It was a gorgeous weekend of pure Indian Summer weather, hillbilly theme park, best darned homemade gumbo soup I've ever had, delicious Oktoberfest brews and kick-@$$ company!!

Look in comments for a sweet pic of Larry bristling with camera gear ... and holy cow; look at that amazing autumnal backdrop! I also included a shot of the lake so you can see our sad little puny moon (which we bemoaned mightily), ... and the dock where Plankton was jammed down into!! Visit Larry and see his epic chain shot and his version of Plankton on the dock!

I've missed everyone, and will be getting around to visit shortly!!

It's been awhile since Ducky popped in for Toy-in-the-Frame Thursday!

This candid portrait was taken on that endless day when Jackie and I rode through the fog for "Bike the Drive." It should go without saying ... that Rubber Ducky hitched a ride in my backpack. He is perched on the handlebars of my bike with Jack's bike in the background ... and "Oh Hey!" ... bonus fence in the background!!

The title is from a fun song by a favorite band {Queen}. The girls LOVE Queen, know all the lyrics ... and when they are together in the car ... they blast it from the speakers and sing all the songs at the top of their lungs. This makes me smile! :-)

I saw Queen in concert (1978: Kalamazoo Wings Stadium). Coincidentally; we {my best friends and I} would also sing all the songs at the top of our lungs!! I like how I passed along my love for music to my girls!

I will be catching up to my favorite Flickr peeps today! It has been a busy week of doin' absolutely nothin'!! We've been enjoying Supernatural marathons! Tonight, we are going to a free concert in Chicago (Bush & Chevelle)!! They are going to ROCK!! \../

Rage Against the Machine!

Recently, I had the chance to tour the rural outlands of Northern Illinois. Jackie decided to spend the 4th of July with college chums up in Wisconsin. I drove her as far as Harvard, Illinois (up near the border). And by the way? That is way out in the middle of absolutely Nowhere!

Since I didn't have anyone to 'play' with, I brought Plankton along! We found some fences, saw epic trees, vast fields of rolled up hay bales ... and at one point, as we were driving along, we were both like: WTF!! We saw the most bizarre farming implement I've ever seen! I have no idea what this sinister contraption is used for. If anyone out there is well versed in farmland machinery, by all means chime in and enlighten us!!!

The "machine" I speak of is viewable in the comments. In the second image, you can see the barn where Plankton took cover, shaking his fists!

The day I did the photoshoot with the girls on the railroad tracks, Ducky insisted that he be included!! In the 95+ degree heat that day I really couldn't lie in those rocks for long! *note to self: bring the old man's kneeling pad*

My biggest concern was that Ducky would begin to melt and stick to the rail!!

For Jackie's birthday, we went to the city for a Molly's Cupcake; then headed over to Montrose Harbor to do a photo shoot with her birthday balloons. No photoshoot is complete without our toys!! It was a lively shoot with the wind whipping Totoro around. We wound the ribbons around his arm & tail to anchor him. He smiled throughout and didn't complain once!!

Plankton: Running on Empty!

Plankton and I rolled into Death Valley Junction on fumes. The wind was whipping madly, a weathered sign banged loudly on rusty chains and tumbleweeds spun wildly down the road (it's true; there really were tumbleweeds)!

If you believe every thing you read on Wikipedia you'd be worried at about right now as it will tell you there isn't a gas station in Death Valley Junction. Good thing there was a station; but it came at a price! I gasped when I saw the sign: $4.38 / gallon! But I sucked it up and paid a princely sum to fill my tank. It just isn't a good idea to be 'running on empty' in the Mojave Desert!

Since February, gas prices have skyrocketed. I've paid much more for a gallon of gas than I did in Death Valley Junction. In fact, the price I paid in Big Sur in April was the most I've ever paid for gas. I paid a whopping $5.49 / gallon!! *gasp*

I really wish that I had arrived at this junction back in its hey day, when that Chevron gas pump (image in comments) was shiny and sparkly ... and dispensing gas for only .44¢ / gallon ... and the attendant out there shooting the breeze with me ... washing my windshield and checking my oil. Remember those days?

High above the Pacific Ocean, perched on a fence post; rubber ducky is king of all that he can see. And what a sight to greet the two of us, way up in the Marin Headlands. Very briefly, the fog bank parted revealing the tremendous towers and sweeping cables. I stopped in the middle of the steep and winding road to grab this shot. Not a soul was present other than a crazy lone biker.

Eventually, I continued up to the very top and all that was to be seen up there was a wall of dense, pure white fog. So it was a good thing I had stopped earlier to grab this shot!!

Totoro on the Bridge!!

Jackie crocheted this amigurumi and also a smaller version as a gift for Rachel. This character is Totoro, a character from the anime, "My Neighbor Totoro." This happy portrait was taken in Island Park on a bridge that goes over the Fox River. The girls are in bokeh in the background.

Rachel's birthday was a success!! In the comments, you will see the cake the girls decorated. Now you see why they insisted on baking in the heat! A store-bought cake just wouldn't do! We had a wonderful day yesterday. Rachel insisted on her cake at 10:30 AM ... there were no complaints! Then we spent the rest of the day shooting photos in several area parks. We topped off the day with dinner at Meson Sabika, a tapas restaurant ... and then took her to the airport. Many tears ...
