A/S Stangfjorden Elektrokemiske Fabriker was the first aluminium factory to be built in Scandinavia. Production started January 8th 1908. The factory in Stongfjorden was owned by the British Aluminium Company Ltd (BACO).

Stongfjorden autumn 1907. The construction work on the factory is finished, and three of the five buildings offering housing for workers at the factory are also finished.

AS Stangfjorden Elektrokemiske Fabriker established in 1897 originally produced iodine and peat coal. In 1906 the factory was bought by British Aluminium Company (BACO), who turned it into the first aluminium factory in Scandinavia.

The oxide ship "Taff" alongside the quay in Stongfjorden. Handpower was used to transport the oxide from the ship to the factory.
