I enjoyed a visit to neighbor, Connie's, flower beds this afternoon. She has so many pretty flowers to choose from! I like the interesting bokeh that the foliage creates.

I took a brief break from my household sorting project to take shots of some of my naturalized species crocusses. This is the earliest they have bloomed here! It was a glorious spring-like day for the first day of February and wonderful to be out in it for even a short while! :)

All the hummers seem to be gone except for three youngsters of which this is one I shot at Connie's today. They rest a lot near the food sources, storing up energy, no doubt, for the long journey ahead that will begin any day now. . . .

It seems that this hummer's beak is the perfect length for this salvia flower. It also seems that the overhanging petal would obstruct its nose!

Not much flower-feeding went on at Connie's place today, with all the lightening-speed warfare taking place among the 20—30 hummers all trying to get a spot at a feeder at the same time. Flower feeding seems to take too much concentration?

On my way walking home from Connie's I stopped by her Russian Sage planting that had a number of my favorite Buckeye butterflies feeding on it. I like the effect that happened here, even though the butterfly is not in sharp focus. It just adds to the general pleasant softness.
