Boiler. Abandoned in Montana

High up on a ridge in the Elkhorn Mountains is this abandoned boiler at an abandoned mine. Close up front view. Made by the "Chicago Iron Works, Chicago,Illinois" It had to have been shipped to Montana either by rail on the Northern Pacific, or by steamboat on the Missouri River to Fort Benton. Then cross country by mule train. Depending on the date of installation.
Note the Hammer and Pick mining symbols carefully crafted on either side of the fireboxes. Fire box doors have at some point in time been removed.

High up on a ridge in the Elkhorn Mountains in Montana is this abandoned boiler. Front view. Seen at an abandoned mine while out on a hike. Unusual in that the boiler is clad in a wrap of brick and stone. Perhaps it helped to retain the heat. The doors to the firebox are missing.

High up on a ridge in the Elkhorn Mountains is this abandoned boiler at an abandoned mine. Unusual in that the boiler is clad with stone and brick. Perhaps that helped to keep the heat in.
Seen while hiking here in Montana.

Here is a view into the fire box of this abandoned boiler. It most likely would have been fueled with cord wood. Seen at an abandoned mine high up on a ridge in the Elkhorn Mountains in Montana. Seen while out on a hike.

The sign appears to say "Bair - Collins" Seen in Roundup,Montana.
Bair-Collins was a coal mine operating entity in the Roundup,Montana area.
Involving Charles M. Bair of Bair Ranch fame and a Mr. Collins.
Perhaps this building was their offices ?

This is seen on Rosebud Creek Road (447) in eastern Montana. The road follows the historic Rosebud Creek.
