Some days you have revelations. My good friend Whitney helped me realize that the reason I have not been inspired to pick up the camera of late is not because I am busy with school or work, but because I have not been creating art for myself. I have used work and school as an excuse cover up that fact and I am very grateful for her honesty. It felt so amazing to have an idea, work through the challenges, and make this image work. I have learned a great deal making art for others, but I have also realized that I will lose my passion for what I love if I do not do it for me, and me alone.

This image is to be accompanied by this poem:

Serenade

It had not rained for weeks, maybe
months. The ground was hard so the leaves
would have to suffice. A thin trickle of
blood still glistened in the corners
of his mouth; the wounds themselves
covered by an autumn blanket.

He would not last long; already
fleeting shadows were appearing at the
edge of the clearing. It had taken little
time to cover him with leaves; surely even
less time for the coyotes to uncover
their feast.

But the blanket of leaves had been
necessary. The wounds too much
for me to stomach. A breeze blew and loose
leaves revealed the body below while
more stubborn ones clung tightly
to the warm sticky blood.

The sun was beginning to set; warm
light making its way through gaps in the
trees. A single beam illuminated the bloody
scene. I picked up my unused shovel and
walked toward home; the sound of tearing flesh
and snarling coyotes serenading my departure.

As with all of the photos in this series thus far, I am very happy with the results. I am also extremely happy that I have successfully photographed both of my grandmothers and not only that, but captured their essence in photos that will last forever. Not everybody is fortunate enough to get that opportunity and I am extremely grateful for the chance to do so. One of my goals in recent shoots is to get done a little bit more efficiently because I know that some day when working with important clients I will not get the luxury of moving lights around as long as I please. I am trying to get better at looking at a location and knowing how I want it lit right away. I was much more successful in doing so this time and I hope that with experience that will continue in the future.
I've been a little bit absent these last couple weeks getting everything settled for transferring this Fall so my apologies for not getting to some of the awesome work you guys have been posting. My younger cousin Kiera came into town this weekend with my aunt from Arizona. She wanted to go out and take some pictures so my aunt found this awesome dress and we went exploring at a local lake. This was the first time she'd ever modeled for pictures and she really did an awesome job. Expect a few more uploads from this shoot.

So this picture is a perfect example of how confidence can get you in trouble. I had this idea yesterday, but had dinner with my family and didn't get home before the sun set. So I went out tonight during another beautiful golden hour and laid down to take this picture. I had problems I never even imagined I would have. I could not find any dandelions to begin with and when you live in the country with tons of fields, that should never happen. So I had to jog all the way back up to my house and grab some, carefully holding them so they did not blow away. Then my camera refused to focus on me, then the dandelion could not be seen. I was thinking, "Seriously, this was not supposed to be this hard!" I finally got it though, but came home sweaty, tired, and covered in grass and stickers. Perect example of how the simplest shots can be the hardest!

Also, thank you Joel for the surprise letter and prints in the mail today...it was totally unexpected and absolutely made my day!

So it's wonderful to have sisters who don't mind me dragging them into random fields with heavy instruments. A big thanks to Bree Ann for letting me take pictures of her today. We had a lot of fun and as always there's a story behind every picture. My original idea was to include myself in the picture in some way and was wearing a suit. Well that idea didn't work out so instead I got to take pictures in a super hot suit for no reason. It was totally worth it though and we got a bunch of awesome shots. This was both our favorite though. I now have to take her to Sonic for "payment." I'll be back later tonight to check your streams!

You Turn Me Upside Down

So first I have to say this…it worked! I really had a lot of doubts about this idea because I knew the chances of me being able to still do an aerial, get myself in the frame, and get the sun behind me were pretty slim. Hey, it turned out though so I’m happy. It took about 150 tries if anybody is curious :-P

Also, I’ve love to give a shout out to a few wonderful people who have left me testimonials:

Whitney

Thank you guys so much for your kind words, they mean so much to me! To my contacts, go give their streams a look!

Also, thanks to all of you who take the time to comment and view my work, I really can’t say that enough. You guys rock ;)
If I Saw You Dancing, I Would Spin You Around (Explored #27)

I couldn't resist uploading this! This is my sister Bree and I out in the middle of my favorite field. We had a lot of fun and I love how this turned out. I'm almost tempted to use this as my 365 for the day, but I'm not sure yet. You guys enjoy :)

Time for...10 random things (it's always hard to do these and not repeat ones I've said in past ones so don't have me if I do haha)

1. I just changed my major from graphic design to creative writing the other day and I'm actually pretty excited about that because I love to write.

2. I've been saved for a little over a year now and live quite a different life than I did a year ago.

3. I love to swing. Like, go to the park in the middle of the night, hop on a swing set and swing for hours.

4. A lot of people ask me if I have shots like the one above planed out ahead a time and really the answer is sometimes, but pretty rarely. Most of it's inspiration early in the day or sometimes I just grab the camera and go out and start shooting. The last one is the most common.

5. I'm thinking of doing a questions and answers video sometime soon. In fact, it's going to be 5 random things because I can't think of any more haha and you guys feel free to ask questions and I'll make a video of it :)
So I love surprises and I actually had something else planned for today's shoot. I took a test shot to just judge the angle, and actually said, "Wow" on the back of the camera because I was so surprised. I scratched my original idea and started working on getting this where I wanted it. I have a few more that I really liked from this shoot, but I loved the color and composition in this one too much to not pick it. I also have a photoshoot for a friend tonight so I will catch up on your streams later! Thanks Mom for helping with the title :)

Inspired by the iPod commercials

Because people will be curious, the song I was listening to at the time (wouldn't listen if you don't like screaming music): Show Me Yours~Breathe Carolina

So the golden hour tonight was just unbelievable. It rained this afternoon and then all the clouds cleared off leaving super clear skies. I found a new song that I love by Breathe Carolina and wanted to incoporate music into my shot somehow. I also wanted to participate in the Theme of the Week, which I've never done before. Anyhow, I had a blast, though I'm sure if the farmer who owns this field saw me he had a good laugh. Also, I just noticed I have less than three weeks left until the end of my 365. I'm getting so excited!

I know there have been some warm days this winter, but I really forgot how much more fun it is take pictures when I'm not freezing to death. It got in the mid to high sixties today and I spent some of the afternoon just driving around listening to music with the windows rolled down. Also, I may try to take another late picture after midnight for tomorrow's picture because I am taking pictures at a rehearsal dinner for a wedding tomorrow night. This Saturday I'm taking pictures of the wedding itself with the help of a couple other photographers, so I'm pretty nervous, but excited. It's something different and should be a lot of fun.

So This is What it Feels Like to Be Free
Ah, the power of sunlight to make it appear way warmer than it actually is. I'm not complaining though because as cold as it might be with the wind here, it's not snowing like it is in Texas. I've really had enough snow for one winter so I really hope we don't get anymore. As cold as it was, there really is a liberating feeling of just being out in this gorgeous field with nothing but my camera and tripod. It's the kind of free feeling that gets me through this project every day. Also, very little homework tonight, so I'm going to relax!
