I got numerous praises for what I did with the "golden gate bridge turns 75."

But, it was not perfect from many angles. I was not happy with the chromatic aberration. One on the rocks at the bottom left and on the left side of the bridge.

There were more problems that I knew when I posted it the first time. The biggest headache I had was the breaking up of the steel cable at the end of the bridge and both steel beams were crooked. These were caused by HDR processing using Photomatix.

So, I decided to rework this great image of the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco.

Also, I am revealing that the clouds were just added to the original 5 exposures to make it more dramatic. That was the toughest job on this one.

If you open both versions in different windows, then, you can compare them and see what I did with this latest offering.

This Golden Gate Project is included in my upcoming book, HDR UNLEASHED, which will be available in July. I will show you how I managed to produce this HDR.

I wish I was able to visit San Francisco yesterday to witness the historical celebration of one of the world's famous structures and an engineering marvel, the Golden Gate Bridge. My only way to celebrate it is to produce and release this HDR picture.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Building the Golden Gate, at an estimated cost of $1.2 billion in current dollars, was a Herculean task. While the idea took hold in the prosperous 1920s, by the time ground was broken the Depression had left many people desperate for jobs.

“Launched midst a thousand hopes and fears; Damned by a thousand hostile sneers,” was how the head engineer for the bridge, Joseph Strauss, described the bridge in a poem he wrote to mark its completion in 1937. He died less than a year later.

Even the bridge’s arresting dark orange color was an accident, first used as a primer while designers decided what to paint it. The Navy had argued for black with yellow stripes, to ensure it could be seen in a strait hostile to mariners, with dense fog, heavy winds and strong ocean swells.

In the end, bridge authorities decided they liked the color - known as International Orange - and stuck with it.

Crowds gather for Golden Gate Bridge celebration (USA Today)

Thousands of people flocked to San Francisco's waterfront and onto Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday to celebrate the famous span's 75th birthday.

The daylong party attracted pleasure boats, tug boats and other vessels to the water as people on shore enjoyed a number of events stretching from Fort Point south of the bridge to Pier 39 along The Embarcadero. Many walked and biked across the bridge before capping the day by watching a fireworks display over the city's most famous symbol.

Since it opened in 1937, more than two-billion vehicles have crossed the 1.7-mile-long bridge named after the Golden Gate Strait, the entrance of water to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean, and championed by engineer Joseph Strauss in the 1920s.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. There is also evidence that organized women's groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, "Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping" by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication "To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead" (Source: Duke University's Historic American Sheet Music, 1850-1920). While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860's tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, each contributed honorably to the growing movement that culminated in Gen Logan giving his official proclamation in 1868. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.

In 1915, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located on the south end of the Music Center Campus. The Concert Hall is bordered by Hope Street (West), Grand Avenue (West), First Street (North) and Second Street (South).

Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is designed to be one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world, providing both visual and aural intimacy for an unparalleled musical experience. The auditorium, designed to look and feel like a ship's hull, features 2,265 audience seats which surround the orchestra, as well as natural lighting. The Walt Disney Concert Hall is wheelchair accessible and provides Phonic Ear sound system headsets for the hard of hearing.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall encompasses two outdoor amphitheaters, including the William M. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California is one of the most beautiful, and most photographed, bridges in the world.

Fort Point is an historic Civil War era masonry building partially under the south end of the massive bridge.

75th Anniversary
A yearlong celebration will mark the 75th anniversary of the iconic structure. Numerous improvements to enhance visitors experience include renovation of the Round House and conversion to a staging center, construction of a new welcome and interpretive center to be known as the Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion, improvments to surrounding parks and more.

A public celebration will be held on Crissy Field over Memorial Day weekend and “75 Tributes to the Bridge” will be presented by community-based organizations and public agencies throughout the year. Full, updated information is available on the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary site.

Linking San Francisco with Marin County the Golden Gate Bridge is a 1.7 mile-long suspension bridge that can be crossed by car, on bicycles or on foot

There are parking and viewing areas at either end of the bridge.

The Marin Headlands side of San Francisco's GGB is a great place to take pictures—such as this July 4th fireworks photo or the panorama just below it—and watch freighters and sailboats cruise under the bridge.

You can enjoy a view from the Marin Headlands that stretches from Golden Gate Park and Twin Peaks to The Bay Bridge, Alcatraz Island and beyond.

If you visit San Francisco there are many double-decker bus or city tours available that will take you across the bridge or to one of the viewing areas and most wine tours from San Francisco cross the bridge.

Golden Gate Bridge History
The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937 at twelve o'clock noon when President Franklin D. Roosevelt pressed a telegraph key in the White House announcing the event. The GGB opening was ahead of schedule and under budget.

Joseph Baerman Strauss (top section is about the Bay Bridge, scroll down for GGB information) had a dream of building a bridge across the Golden Gate. Cincinnati born and trained with Chicago engineering experience, Strauss built his reputation for bridge building in San Francisco with his Bascule Bridge Co. which was responsible for two historic SF drawbridges still in operation near the AT&T ballpark: the Fourth Street bridge and the “Lefty” O'Doul bridge on Third Street.

Though Strauss only lived a year beyond completion of construction of the GGB he disproved the conventional wisdom of the time;

“No one can bridge the Golden Gate because of insurmountable difficulties which are apparent to all who give thought to the idea.”

Swift currents, deep water and strong winds were the most obvious of the ‘insurmountable difficulties’ Strauss had to deal with.

The cable contractor for the Golden Gate Bridge was John A. Roebling's Sons Co. Trenton & Robeling, New Jersey.

The Brooklyn Bridge in New York, completed 54 years earlier in 1883 and designed by wire rope patent holder John A. Roebling, was the first famous suspension bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge helped to define and add fame to New York City in much the same way that the Golden Gate Bridge has for San Francisco.

Golden Gate Bridge Design
The Golden Gate Bridge design echoes an Art Deco Theme. Wide, vertical ribbing on the horizontal tower bracing accents the sun's light on the bridge.

The towers that support the Golden Gate Bridge's suspension cables are smaller at the top than at the base, emphasizing the tower height of 500 feet above the roadway. Irving Morrow—an architect hired by Strauss to design an architectural treatment for the bridge—chose the ‘international orange’ paint color to blend with the setting while still being very visible to ships.

Coit Tower is another San Francisco landmark with an Art Deco design. Timothy Pflueger was probably the most prolific and renowned Art Deco Architect in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Golden Gate Bridge Facts
Golden Gate refers to Golden Gate Strait—a name that originated around 1846.

The Golden Gate Bridge's 4,200 foot long main suspension span was a world record that stood for 27 years. It is still the second longest in the United States after the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge which links Staten Island to Brooklyn in New York.

The bridge's two towers rise 746 feet making them 191 feet taller than the Washington Monument.

The five lane bridge crosses Golden Gate Strait which is about 400 feet, or 130 meters, deep. Simple yellow markers are used to switch the center lane so that there are three lanes into San Francisco for the morning commute and three leaving The City in the afternoon and evening.

Golden Gate Bridge Tolls are only collected on the way in (going south). The toll on the Golden Gate Bridge increased to $5.00/4.00 FasTrak on September 1, 2002, later raised to $6.00/$5.00. Multi-axle vehicle rates (3 or more axels) will rise on July 1, 2012. There are no carpool lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge.

I believe California has the most expensive gasoline in the nation. Everything is black nowadays. I mean the future is so black. When will the people say something?

This was shot 4 days ago. The price is hovering the 4 dollars a gallon for regular gasoline. The 4.05 dollars and 9/10 cents means it is 4.06. Last year, it was about 2 dollars a gallon.

Is this the prize we achieved from the Iraq war? Blood for oil?

Our president was refused by the Saudi monarchy, considered a friend of the Bushes, to produce more oil to lower the market price of gasoline. The President has lost credibility in the international community. And the Saudis feel they are safe right now without Sadam. So, why support now the Americans? The Saudis need no Americans.

With the gasoline rising prices, prices of commodities are going up too. It's a chain reaction people cannot afford with their salary remaining where it was and many were losing their jobs. Companies are closing or downgrading since they cannot afford losing more money.

The dollar is losing its value. It is really becoming a paper money in comparison with foreign currencies like the UK pound and the Euros.

We are living in the dark ages. So black. Or so bleak.

I wish the election for a new president is happening today.
