This Painted Turtle looks very content sunning himself. After many rainy days in the past week, I'm sure he was just as happy as we were to see the sun!

(Not the best time of day to take pics with the bright afternoon light and dark shadows. I'll confess to a fair amount of tweaking & softening to make this shot more presentable.)

This month's theme at Competition Corner is "Post It!" and right away I knew what I'd like to take pictures of for this challenge.

These postcards (and a book in the packaging) were sent to the kids and I from my sweet flickr friend Moira in Kenya. It was a pleasant and exciting surprise to see something arrive at the door all the way from Mombasa, Kenya. I love the different stamps on each item showing what is grown there and all the beautiful wildlife images. I leave these out on the table for anyone who stops by to have a look and enjoy!

I've been stuck indoors with these bitter cold windchills we've had for the past few weeks, so I headed to the warmth of the Conservatory to take some new shots. Here's one of the many Amaryllis on display........this is the "Escape to Spring" collection.

I've been out every evening this week and one thing that's nice about these dark winter months is all the Christmas lights shining down every street.
Just 10 days left.....I hope you are having a great weekend and don't have to go near any of those malls, the holiday traffic is enough to make anybody crazy at this time of year!

Back to the summer flowers....I thought this picture had a bit of a winter/Christmas feel with the dark green & red background, like the poinsettia sitting at the front reception at my office.

Yes, it's December 1st tomorrow and the holidays are fast approaching!

I had forgotten all about this picture......I had this visitor in my backyard on Christmas day. This is only the 2nd time I've seen a Pileated Woodpecker up close and both of those visits happened last year. The first time was at the lake this past May long weekend (below) and then this encounter, I was thrilled to have another glimpse at this large and fantastic bird.
By the time I stopped staring and grabbed a camera, I got this one shot and one only! I would have preferred the tree branches to be out of the way, but at least I got a somewhat decent shot of him.....look at those claws!!

I really liked the color combination of this plant that we found in Matlock while having dinner at The Emporium. For any of my local contacts, this restaurant is worth the trip to visit (reservations required on weekends!) with stone-baked pizzas and ribs/chicken hot of the BBQ, just to name a few of the tasty items on the menu.

Every time I get a chance to go out with my camera it is pitch black....it gets dark by 5:00 pm these days! Night photography is not my specialty or favorite time to take pictures, but then suddenly I had an idea, a MISSION you might even say! While Jaren was busy at a hockey practice Monday night, I was busy hunting down cool looking Christmas lights.
The weather was snowy and cold, the driving was yucky and I was having all sorts of fun with my camera taking shots in my warm van!! Almost sounds a bit loony, but here's the results!

So, I went looking for color last week and didn't have much luck until I spotted these pansies in decorative holders at Assiniboine Park. I could have easily found colorful flowers indoors at the Conservatory, but I was bound and determined to find something pretty growing outside!!

After another full day of sunshine yesterday and some rain outside now, I am happy to finally announce that my trees are showing color and the first signs of blooms......HALLELUJAH, I'm going out to take pics when the showers end! :D

I'm afraid I have to announce that our smiling gecko has passed away. Many of you know that he went blind in both eyes this past year (cause unknown) and as hard as we tried to keep him fed, he just continually lost weight.
We will always remember and sadly miss our happy guy, but we also did not want to see him suffering, so we are comforted to know he is in a "happier" place.
