Nikko Wonderland Bridge

This bridge is supposed to bring luck if I remember it right… Okay I am a Christian guy and kind of skeptical when something made of wood and stone is supposed to bring luck. Since I was there, there was no point where I could have said thank you, bridge.
But instead the bridge somehow reminds me of these fairytale stories like Alice in wonderland or Narnia. When you pass this bridge and the fog you will immediately be in a strange outer world :). Do you know what I mean? The scene is so… UNREAL!

Besides this I am preparing for my trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and hope to bring you some nice City Shots. Somehow this is my genre. I like it to travel and take photos of cool places all over the world.

Today Brazil is playing. Any guesses?

I love waterfalls and I think so you do.

Just image the power a waterfall has. It is accelerating with 9,81 m/s² and when it hits the clear water at the bottom it is just chaos.

If you use a slow shutter speed the floating water gets this friendly look and it is so contrary to the chaos and the noise if you stand right next to it.
Too bad the water was really foggy and rainy the day I visited.

It was 42° and humid as you will never find it over here in Europe. It is disgusting :D

Ohh Yeah, I love Japan for being so sweet. Anywhere you go you’ll find these little unique eye-candies.

This figure was offering some sweets which looked like chocolate to me. I immediately went into the Bar and fetched me a hazelnut flavored Latte Macchiato. Ohh yeah I love coffee :)

The figure can be found in Nikko. Nikko is a very attractive little city with an incredible waterfall. I will post Photos of it these days if I find time to edit them.

Today’s Photo is the Red Tram. In my opinion the photo is the worst out of the others even though the perspective is really interesting. Even though the output doesn’t satisfy me completely it was really dangerous to take the image. I shot at 17mm and the conductor nearly hit my brand new D90. He had to honk and even stop the Tram :)…. Tourists!

The Funny Tram over there is painted in various colors which makes the whole thing special and unique.

Temple of the Golden Pavilion

This is perhaps the most famous temple in Kyoto although a lot of them can be found there.
If you ever go to Kyoto ask me about the monkey mountain. It lies a bit outside of Kyoto but it is more than worth seeing. I’ll give you information about it.
I always wonder why someone uses gold to paint a temple with :) but who cares it is a nice attraction!

If you look at this Photo please do me a favor!! Look at it at maximum resolution and let your eyes wander the outer circle about five times. Then try to focus again at the middle of the explosion. Your eyes will get crazy and you’ll see the whole explosion rotating as if this photo is kind of real.
When I edited the Photo my eyes nearly exploded due to the dynamic of the image. Interesting because the photo is very minimalistic…

I went for a Sumo tournament some time ago. It was interesting and boring at the same time :)
To get one of the highly anticipated tickets I had to get up at 5 am catching the last tickets at 6 am in Asakusa, Tokyo. The Finals were at 6 pm, so 12 hours of constant fighting. Beginning with the bad Sumos until then the Mongolian Yokozunas (two, one for the east and one for the West) finished the tournament.
The funny thing was that in the beginning it was allowed to take pictures just from the side where you could see everything and practice shooting with bad light.
The ritual until fighting for approximately 20 seconds takes about 5 minutes. Here the Sumo prepares for the fight. Collecting all energy he can get out of his body putting it in that one moment when he tries to beat the master.

I know Trey did it better, much better! Others did too, but this is why everybody is doing it. If you ever stood at the peak you will never foregt this moment. It's majestic, kind of sacred :D
Srry for getting poetic but Honk Kong in my mind has the most impressive Skyline ever seen. Too bad when I was there clouds have been all over the place even though I waited for 5 hours to get a clear view. Sometimes life is unfair!
The Post processing was done from a single Raw file. Photomatix -> Photoshop -> some magic and the Nik Color Efex for the dark tones and the saturated reds.
F/ 2.8 - 1 Sek - Iso 200 - 17mm Crop 1.5

Green Tram

Today my Photo is something special and really cool.
In Hong Kong the MTR is the local underground train and it is fast and supposed to be the best underground in the world. But on Hong Kong Island there is the Tram. It is old but really authentic and stylish. It reminds me so much of English trains.
