This was the scene before the opening of the Grand Light Show on Tuesday night. The rain came with high wind and rough waters. At times, the bay water would splash over and onto the boardwalk and could've taken out one of us photographers at any moment!

Scattered high clouds, far and near, in the San Francisco Bay Area, visually created a double layer of beauty above the Golden Gate Bridge during sunset this evening. Summer in San Francisco has been very gray, the weather pattern were weeks of overcast in the daytime and wet fog during the nights and the early mornings, so I haven't really seen nice colors like these in months. Anyways, this was taken on the last day of Summer, the same day that the Space Shuttle Endeavor made her historical last flight and flew over the Golden Gate Bridge during mid-morning.

I have been without my camera for the past 2 weeks, and it really blows! However, I’ve been having more time to go through some of my older files, and this morning, OMG.. Christmas in March!! I guess I was up at Hawk Hill shooting the mind blowing awesome Golden Gate Bridge and fog scene from last year that everyone still remembers and talks about today. Back then, I was still a greenhorn and didn’t know how special the morning was with the sideway fog and dynamic skies! I shot this entire scene without processing a single file, primarily because I wanted to work on them later when I develop some more skills (still am developing of course!). I forgot all about these images until now, after going back two external hard drives. Anyways, here’s a quick one to share.. more to come later! Thanks for visiting!

the scene at the gate this morning was amazing unique for me, because it was my first time to witness fog flowing parallel to the golden gate bridge. lots was happening due to this very fast weather system, and most of the time, one or both of the towers were blocked from view. this image shows both towers, but it did not last long. i'm happy to have gotten a few nice shots to share how it went down! hope you'll enjoy.. and thanks for your comments and visits!

Here's an image to share from a week ago when fog was flowing parallel to the golden gate bridge.. i heard this type of fog movement is a rarity as fog usually flows from the northwest and out towards the east.. enjoy and thank you for visiting!

This photo celebrates and commemorates my first year anniversary in photography! Prior to this, I had always enjoyed taking photos, but only with a lightweight, compact camera from the Canon Powershot series, which means I had no idea what the terms “aperture” or “ISO” were. “Meter” what!?

Last August, when my buddy Ken got married, I wanted to try my hand at taking fancier photos and decided to ask my professional photographer brother John to loan me one of his big boy cameras with the interchangeable lenses. As luck would have it, he was more than happy to oblige me with a Canon 40D strapped with a 50mm prime!

After 15 minutes of basic training on the various settings and dials, I was off and ready to go though I really did not take the camera out until the day of the wedding. At that point, I quickly noticed after looking through the viewfinder that everything was so close up and realized I had to stand back and even further back for group shots. This was a totally different set up from the compact cameras that I was used to! This moment was my first lesson on camera sensor sizes! Needless to say, a number of other lessons followed in quick succession! Regardless of the minor challenges that day, it was the beginning of my journey into photography.

Some of my accomplishments-to-date include having two of my photos featured in publications, the latest of which will be out by year end and available to a worldwide audience.

I’d like to take this opportunity to first and foremost thank my brother John for his incredible mentorship. His work is extraordinary, infinitely awe-inspiring and truly never ceases to amaze me. He has shown me that beauty can indeed be found in the most mundane, everyday, unlikely places if we but take a moment to notice.

Many thanks and gratitude also to the myriad other photographers out there whose works continue to serve as daily creative inspiration for me and add fuel to the fire for the next great shot.

In short, it’s been a very adventurous, fun and educational first year for me and I look forward to all that I still have yet to study and learn. See you all in the field!!

About the photo:

The panoramic photo above is from a set of 4 images that I had taken back in early March. I’d actually forgotten about them until I came across them a few days ago, so it was perfect timing for this celebratory photo here. This image shows the Iconic Golden Gate Bridge surrounded by fog on a cool autumn evening. This was probably the third or fourth time I’d been up at Hawk Hill to witness this type of weather condition. The San Francisco cityscape was amazingly unobstructed by fog as the land had cooled off faster than the bay water throughout the day. This permitted a clear visual of most of the East Bay from Berkeley down to Hayward from all high vantage points.
