Peacock king of the castle - Chlumec nad Cidlinou

This is the courtyard of Chateau Chlumec nad Cidlinou where several peacocks live. The males were fighting for their territory while we were visiting. I've never seen them fly before. At the end of the fight the loser climbed on the highest tree and made very loud sounds. The winner posed with the spread feathers - it was quite a sight. The females did not seem interested.

When I was passing through the town of Chlumec nad Cidlinou, I decided to stop and see if the peacock was still there. I remembered the local peacocks from my last visit a few years ago and was hoping to see them again. I left my companions in the car and ran to the chateau in the rain. To my pleasant surprise, the peacocks were there, hiding in the trees. One of them walked around and I managed to get a quick shot before my camera got wet.

As if they were posing for me in the courtyard of a medieval residence in Europe.
