We quickly learned if we stood at the edge of the hot pool, we were blessed by a beautiful view of the Columbia River Valley.
What a great way to sit in the relaxing hot water while enjoying the view.

Sparkling Waters

The Columbia River is only about 10 to 30 ft (3 to 9 m) wide and shallow enough to wade across in flipflops and a bathing suit - in warmer weather. My wife and I took a short float trip along the river and these serene views greeted us at every turn.

Columbia Lake

This serene view of Columbia Lake is the headwaters of the Columbia River. So unlike the rushing rapids and frantic flow of the Columbia farther downstream.

Hot Pool and Falls

Eastern British Columbia has a number of natural hot springs that originate in the Rockies. This natural pool and waterfall, near the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, is fed by a natural hot spring. Most of the water from the hot springs has been diverted to feed a man-made spa around the corner. The water is about 38 C, (or about 100 F).
This natural pool was formed by the falling water pounding on the rocks below. The pool, about 4 ft. or 1.2 m. deep was ideal for young and old to congregate and soak. Standing under the falls gives you a free, very vigorous hot water massage - great for a very short period of time.

This luxury resort is in the Columbia River valley with the Rockies as the backdrop. The resort lacks nothing; a very comfortable place to sit back and relax.

Dolphins in Sand

Many independent artists feature their sculptures on the beach and place a small collection box on the Malecon, looking for donations. This sand-based interpretation of a school of dolphins is worth the small donation. Wonderful detail and textures.

Chess Players - Sand Sculpture

At first glance, I thought this was a very impressive sand sculpture, but then the figures moved, ever-so-slightly. The entire set is covered in a sand finish and the two "actors" are also covered in a sand-based make-up of some sort.

Another whimsical example of the public art on the Malecon.

If this eagle can ever get off the ground it would be truly formidable.

On our flight from Toronto to Puerto Vallarta, we flew over the Mexican Highlands; I was struck by the desolation and vivid mountain and canyon landscapes.

This Mexican landscape viewed from 30,000 ft. had so little vegetation, it reminded me of a lunar landscape.

Peninsula Panorama

Just to the south of our hotel is a long peninsula with cloud-enshrouded mountains and small villages nestled in the valleys. One of the villages was used to shoot the movie "Night of the Iguana", a film featuring Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Many of the original sets have been preserved and are open to the public.

Flying over the big snow storm in Southern Ontario on Feb. 8th, 2013 - location approximate.
We departed from Toronto in heavy blowing snow (Very lucky to get underway; lots of flights were cancelled.) and flew over heavy clouds for most of our journey south to Mexico.

Toned and replaced the image Feb.18, 2013.

The confluence of the Yoho and Kicking Horse Rivers. Both rivers are narrow and swift, although this image doesn't show it well. I was more interested in the picturesque growth on the river banks.

A shoreline view of Emerald Lake. The blue-green of the lake and the contrasting blue-green of the trees and sky caught my eye.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Golf Course

This luxury resort, complete with two golf courses, straddles the Columbia River. One golf course is in the valley, the other in the foothhills of the Rocky Mountains. Here is the valley course.
