RF10 Universal Remote

This is an 8 source learning remote which transmits both IR and RF, and has a 6 port RF receiver that sends IR directly to each of my components. I also program this to control my HTPC by using EventGhost and the Hauppauge remote that came with my HVR1600 capture card. The remote uses the same frequency as Radio Shack or Jensen room to room IR extenders, meaning any ir remote can also be used. As a backup I also have ATI Remote Wonders which include mouse functions.

Basement Audio System

This computer also has my Creative Audigy Platinum card and is used for mp3 conversion. My old stereo system is setup to record everything from albums, cassettes, I even have a reel to reel tucked away if I ever got that ambitious (no 8-tracks though) Also my basement beer fridge, gotta fuel those workouts. (usually while catching up with Daily Show/Colbert)

Basement

I took my oldest computer into the basement and loaded Ubuntu Studio on it. This setup runs completely off of Beyondtv via Placeshifter. I even added wireless headphones to this setup, as this is also a workout room. I still have an old 19" Tv mounted on the wall that is not really used but fully wired like upstairs

The office is in the next room behind the tv, giving it easy access to all components. The 22" Samsung monitor has a button on the panel to switch between my office computer and my HTPC with one press. I can also dock my PDA and Mp3 players here. The PDA can double as a remote control for the HTPC using either Media Portal or Beyondtv, and has an IR for controlling all the other components.

I put the LEDs in a small box so we can see when one o the Directv boxes is recording. I also use macros launched by LCD Smartie to disable the IR remotes on the Directv boxes when they are being used for recordings. This is possible because I use direct serial connections to change channels from my HTPC.

In addition to the Wii (with keyboard) and DVD player, I still have an ancient and working Sony Betamax up here.

I moved my old Sony 40" projection TV upstairs, where my son has his Wii and DVD player. I feed video directly from downstairs, using an old VCR as an input selector. Using the RF10 remotes, we can control both Directv boxes and the VCR. My son's computer also has a copy of Beyondtv link, and connects directly to the tv as well.

Since the LCD smartie doesn't help at the upstairs tv, I wired up an Ledsdriver system using already wired ethernet cable in the house. I use a USB to serial adaptor, and an old serial to ethernat adaptor I found lying around to send the signal upstairs

Battery Backup and Cable Amps

Two surge protectors and backups power all component s, including the tv. In addition, I use a roof mounted arrow antenna for over the air signals, and run that through an electroline 8-port amplifyer. The HTPC has 4 OTA inputs, and records SD from my H20 receiver and HD from the H21 via the HD PVR. Both Directv boxes are controlled with serial to usb tuners. I also feed the Samsung TV and the rest of the house from here.

For temperature control, I took the back off the cabinet. The Family room is halfway underground, and I run cables upstairs against the cement outer wall, which helps with cooling. All components are wired to directly feed the tv as well as feeding the HTPC, which leads to a lot of chaos.

Since we use the Directv boxes for recording by the HTPC as well as watching directly on the TV's, I built an LCD panel to warn when a recording is in session, which box it is using, end time and next recording.

Yamaha RV-X663 receiver with Ipod dock and LCD Smartie. Underneath is Directv H21 receiver, VCR (to feed video inputs throughout the house using prewired coaxial) and Hauppauge HD PVR for recording hidef. Also tucked away is the RF100 receiver, which receives RF signals from my universal remotes or IR extenders, and feeds IR signals directly into all components. The VCR will let other rooms choose between Directv boxes and other video inputs.

Tucked in the wall next to the fireplace, audio and some video components are in the top section behind glass doors, HTPC and other components are tucked away underneath.

Two piece Sanus wall mount, the LRF118-B1 articulating arm and the LR1a-B1 in wall mount. Mounted in the wall between the studs, so TV can lay flat 1/2" from the wall. All cables feed through the wall to my audio cabinet
