Lupines at the Lake

Having seen some great images of lupines this year from some other photographers, I decided to roll out after work yesterday and see what I could find.
The first thing I found was a rattlesnake who seemed not to like my truck very much. Luckily, he backed down and went his own way. The altercation left me very cautious however as I hiked through the tall grasses on my way to the Lupine.
Seeing the eastern shores of Folsom Lake blanketed in purple was pretty special, but I would have to say that the fresh flower smell was even better.
I wasn't fortunate enough to have any clouds, so I minimized the sky and chose to go with some side lighting instead.
If you can, I suggest you find your way over here and see this beautiful landscape for yourself. Super blooms like this only happen every 8 years or so.

Sometimes I feel like we tend to overstate a lot when explaining or describing things to people. I was listening to Lous CK a while back and he was doing a bit about people using the words "awesome" or "amazing" to describe a sandwich. His point was that by the time you actually have something in your life that inspires awe, you'll have wasted the word on a sandwich, and will have no words left with enough meaning to describe your wedding day or your first born child for example. That being said, this sunset in Napa back in November of 2010, maybe have been the most beautiful I've experienced as a photographer or otherwise, and it sure as hell was awesome. I hope you enjoy, and cheers.

As you walk around Fly Geyser you notice that this thing has a bit of Beauty, and a bit of the beast. A little Jeckyl and a little Hyde. The color however, is like a rainbow on all sides. Cheers and happy shooting.

Point Bonita Light House. I was actually informed about this fantastic lighthouse by my mother, who lives in Idaho. Just goes to show that there's always more to learn from moms! This lighthouse is really a neat one. Just north of San Francisco, you have to walk through a tunnel blasted into a rock mountain and then cross this simply beautiful suspension bridge to get over to it. The bridge in fact, was just finished from a very long renovation. They do "full moon" sunset tours once a month, otherwise it's only accessable Friday-Sunday from noon to 3pm. If you get the chance, make your way out to see it for yourself. Cheers and happy shooting, -jared ropelato.
