Took Jackson to the zoo for the first time yesterday. He didn't seem to be too interested in the animals, but was thoroughly entertained by all the people. I on the other hand, was in animal heaven. Here's a shot I took of some giraffes. Hope you enjoy. Have a gret week, and a huge thank you to all thouse who serve. www.facebook.com/RopelatoPhotography

Wahclella Falls Web

www.ropelatophotography.net

Just back off an amazing and challenging trip up the Oregon Coast and back down central Oregon. What was challenging you ask? Well, the weather, the terrain, the shooting conditions, and the exhaustion from physical exertion and lack of sleep. I only nearly died once, and ended up taking about four big tumbles down various hillsides. It could not have been better!

This is a shot, well, five shots really of Wahclella Falls. I shot this as a vertical panorama to maximize the details in the shot. The result is a shot of this beautiful waterfall that is around three times the size and detail of a normal shot.

I cannot tell you how in awe I am of the Oregon landscape. It is so diverse, so varied, and so stunningly beautiful. Expect a lot of images of this wonderful state coming your way!

Cheers.
I didn't make it around the final bend on Oneonta Canyon. I tried mind you, but I didn't make it.
Just as I started worrying about the water being deeper than my waders, I suddenly realized that my camera pack was half way under water.
Dumb luck kept the only flooded compartment to the one I had pulled the lens out of.
Cheers to applying for equipment insureance.

Wanting to see the top side of Oneonta Gorge, I headed up the loop trail, and after some fairly steep switchbacks, it began to rain, lending me that fresh smell that only comes with a starting rain. That sense kicked in just as I rounded the corner to see this beauty.
That experience was heightened by the twelve foot stumble I took when some bark gave way on a fallen tree I was trying to climb over to get to this spot. Muddy, and a little scratched up, I simply scampered back up the hill, collecting my tripod as I went, and made my second attempt. I LOVE shooting in Oregon. No joke.
Cheers.

www.ropelatophotography.net

Having seen some great images of lupines this year from some other photographers, I decided to roll out after work yesterday and see what I could find.
The first thing I found was a rattlesnake who seemed not to like my truck very much. Luckily, he backed down and went his own way. The altercation left me very cautious however as I hiked through the tall grasses on my way to the Lupine.
Seeing the eastern shores of Folsom Lake blanketed in purple was pretty special, but I would have to say that the fresh flower smell was even better.
I wasn't fortunate enough to have any clouds, so I minimized the sky and chose to go with some side lighting instead.
If you can, I suggest you find your way over here and see this beautiful landscape for yourself. Super blooms like this only happen every 8 years or so.
No weeping walls for me, but I still have to say that I LOVE this place. This had to have been my most favorite spot on my 2000+ mile Oregon adventure. Can't wait to head back up here after a good rain and give it another go.

I'm very fortunate in that every year around this time I get 9 days off work for spring break. This year I decided to head up the Oregon Coast and scope out some waterfalls.

Last year and the year before that I headed down to Death Valley was fortunate to get some good light here and there. This shot is from my first ever trip into Mesquite Dunes and I was super fortunate to catch a sunset.

It was 97 degrees as I sludged into the dunes far enough to get past all the footprints. I remember it like it was yesterday, and to this day when I turn my Merrells upside down, sand pours out.
