31 401 ambles into Reading on the slow lines or "relief lines" to use Western parlance. It has been out on a inspection run conveying civil engineering staff and is hauling RCE (Regional Civil Engineers) saloon DW80975 a purpose built saloon car dating from 1948.

31 416 ambling towards Acton Yard through Ealing Broadway.

31 416 complete with silver band is seen coasting through Ealing Broadway with just a BR standard brake van in tow heading for Acton Yard.

47 325 arriving at Reading with ECS from Twyford.

47 325 rolls to a stand in Reading with ECS from Twyford having worked train 1F40 17.54 London Paddington to Twyford commuter service. Being high summer the no-heat 47/3 was obviously not going to be a problem on such a working with fresh air Mk1 stock.

Came across this in my 35mm slide collection and it just struck me how long the class 50's were especially in comparison to their Portuguese cousins the 1800 class. Here 50 014 named 'Warspite' sits at Reading with 1M13 11.50 London Paddington to Birmingham New Street. 'Warspite' was withdrawn on 14/12/1987 and was broken up at Vic Berry's yard, Leicester in July 1989, R.I.P. a fine machine indeed.

50 043 has just arrived with ECS from Old Oak Common while bubble car 55034 gently pollutes the atmosphere. It's probably been left running all night on pre-heat seeing as it was bitterly cold before starting a days work on the Greenford shutttle service.
