Kansas Cosmosphere - August 28th, 2010

I was asked to speak on how to get students interested in astronomy, and well, I THOUGHT it was a casual event with only a few teachers (As after this, there was to be a big star party and fair event). BUT it wasn't, the President of the Kansas Senate - Steve Morris, WSU Professors - Nicholas Solomey & Holger Meyers, and Space Age Publishing - Steve Durst were all there (and dressed professionally. While I was all "relaxed". (And Slouching in the photo :p)

iPad Upload

Testing out to see if I can upload photos directly from the iPad. I was thinking of getting the camera adapter kit, so when i'm in the field I don't have to pull the computer out just to review the images. Then I could even do some pre processing with the iPad, and upload to flickr! Well, lets hope this works...

Took a 10min walk from my aunts house in Glehn, Germany and took a picture of whatever I had there (and it was either this, or some dog poop ;)).

It's definitely not a great photo, and not a bright perseid, but it is a perseid!

After the few hundred people at the observatory cleared out, I had some time to set-up my camera outside and do some wide-field photography. I got about 25min on card, and from those only this little guy showed up!

I must admit I was quite ignorant to the settings I was using. I was shooting at ISO1250 in hot weather (with of course no auto darks, but forgot the dark frame entirely!), and using 21mm.

Im still quite pleased thought that I caught at least one on camera last night. I saw about 65+ in an hour and it was really fun! So why don't you try heading out to tonight and see if you can get a better photo! (:

July 18, 2010 (10:05) - The skies cleared again and I had a change to image the moon! Sadly I only have a 300mm lens with me, so i can't really get too 'close up' shots of the moon. Thats when i remembered I can image the moon with my Galileoscope! Though this image didn't turn out as sharp as my previous shots through the GS, it's still nicer than the 300mm ones.

Finally the skies had cleared here in Dirmerzheim, Germany for me to take some photos. Sadly, I don't have an Equitorial mount with me, or a barn-door. So I've had to deal with limited exposures and star trails. Anyways, I was still pleased seeing some Milky Way show up in the image, with all the light pollution from Koeln (Cologne).

Meteor - Sternschnuppe

First Meteor photographed in Germany. I set up the camera for the entire night (Only 4 or so hours so far north :( ) and had it take an image every 30s, for 40s. The skies aren't the best here of course, but they're not the worst I've imaged in. Now we just need some more Clear skies!

Not sure which constellation as of right now, but hopefully Astrometry will figure it out.
