It was upgraded quickly over the next 5 minutes to a second and then third alarm.

It was later determined that one of the residents of the house liked to cook fish in the shed, and had turned on the stove and apparently placed a piece of wood on the stove, before returning to the house. Several minutes later the resident returned to find the shed engulfed in flames. The shed was close to three houses and all three suffered significant fire damage, and were left uninhabitable at the end of the day, displacing many people from the three houses.

Shortly after 3:30pm on Thursday July 26th, 2012 Santa Clara County Fire Department received reports of a stove fire in Cupertino. Responding units reported smoke showing from 2 miles away and the incident was upgraded to a full first alarm. Once on scene units reported that a shed at the back of a house was fully involved, and that exposures on several sides were being affected by fire.

Around 9:00pm on June 27th a fire was reported in a dumpster at the rear of a commercial building on Concourse Drive in San Jose. Initially dispatched as a smoke investigation arriving fire fighters were confronted with a dumpster that was well ablaze, and flames climbing the wall of the building. A First alarm was struck, and when Firefighters got inside and discovered heavy smoke and some fire damage on the second floor above the dumpster a second alarm was called.

Next to the dumpster fire fighters found a canister containing a number of Lithium Ion battery cells that was also burning, and presented a challenge to extinguish. While the structure was cleared and the fire stopped before it spread far into the building, the Li-Ion batteries would constantly reignite. The batteries and the smoke they were emitting upgraded the incident to a Hazmat incident and mutual aid from Santa Clara County Fire's Hazmat 2 team was summoned to the scene.
The crew of San Jose Truck 29 cross staff San Jose's Hazmat unit, HIT 29. Since Truck 29 was on the first alarm, they were unavailable to respond with HIT 29 when the incident became a Hazmat event, necessitating the response from County Fire's Hazmat 2.

SJS Truck 9 and Engine 9

The Summer Winds Nursery of San Jose was destroyed in August 2012 by a three alarm fire. San Jose Fire Department units arrived on scene to find the fire spreading throughout the building. The blaze started shortly before midnight and was quickly escalated to a third alarm.

The large supply of fertilizers, insecticides and other garden chemicals presented a Hazmat risk as fire officals were concerned the containers may rupture and the smoke and run off water may become contaminated. Between the chemical and collapse threats an exclusion zone was established 50' around the building, and to reduce the threat of run off water being a problem fire fighters focussed their streams on the adjoining structures, letting the main building burn for nearly an hour before Hazmat crews were ready to control the run off.

On the Bravo side of the fire we see Station equipment, both Truck 9 and Engine 9 providing a wall of water to prevent the fire from spreading. Engione 9 s a 2009 Hi-Tech built pumpoer, Truck 9 is a 1998 Simon Duplex 100' rear mount.
San Jose Fire responds to Dumpster fire that evolves into Hazmat incident

YFD posted a photo:

San Jose Truck 29 is a 1993 Simon Duplex build with an LTI 85' aerial platform.
