while on the way home from visiting my grandma, i spied this green plymouth. with the both of us stopped on a quiet street waiting for the train to pass, i got out of my car and asked him if he had a mechanic he'd recommend. dapper in his hat, his wife by his side, he was warm and swift to share the name. a few blocks later he waved me over to the curb for some conversation and his mechanic's business card.

my grandmother, Hermilia, is now 99 years old and the sole survivor of her immediate family of 9 siblings, not to mention that she too has outlived all of her friends.

her younger brother, the baby of the family, was 97 when he passed away this past sunday morning in a hospice care facility. he had had a heart attack the previous friday while she was on the phone with him during their daily call to each other. he gasped and the phone fell silent....

pip and i volunteered as the airport shuttle vehicle as she valiantly traveled with my mom and a niece, from Los Angeles to Oregon on what would become an 18 hour day for her, taking 2 planes and an hour long car trip to see him, hold his hand, and be at his side before he passed away. he waited for them. there were smiles and tears.

what a remarkable woman my grandmother, Hermilia is.
she has known such pain and heartbreak, joy and beauty in her lifetime. she perseveres.

all it took was sweeping up endless dried pine needles from under the couches and chairs to get me motivated...and well, Pinterest inspired me too.

i'm determined to finally get rid of those hideously boring blinds at long last.

we've been knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting and drawing these past three weeks.
yesterday she was keen on making mushrooms, today she painted them.
