Marzak has historically been a stronghold for the insurgency over the past decade until Company A, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, Task Force 3-66th, took advantage of the winter months to establish a local police force and secure the village from foreign fighters.

Marzak has historically been a stronghold for the insurgency over the past decade until the Afghan and U.S forces took advantage of the winter months to establish a local police force at the request of the elders and secure the village from foreign fighters who transit the area during the fighting season.

Tylor Calhoun, from California, provides security while fellow soldiers work to recover their heavy expanded mobility tactical truck wrecker from thick mud during a company level clearing operation near Combat Outpost Deh Yak. The joint operation between soldiers of Company C, Task Force 1-2 Infantry and their Afghan National Security Forces partners was planned to disrupt insurgent movements into and through the area ahead of the spring fighting season. The mud created by melting snow served to make movement difficult.
