Lawrence OP posted a photo:

A chalice and paten are the instruments with which a priest offers the Holy Mass. This chalice was commissioned from Fattorini's of Birmingham, and the paten is engraved with the arms of the Order of Preachers, to which these items belong. It was offered by my parents for my Ordination, and is available for my use. The chalice itself is based on one in the British Museum that dates to c.1250.

The chalice and paten has been photographed on the ordination chasuble so that one can see the two together.

The Archbishop now hands the chalice and the paten to the new priest, who kneels before him.
With wine and water in the chalice, and bread on the paten, these are the instruments with which the new priest will fulfill his most important task: the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

"Bread is food. It is wholesome, nourishing food for which we never lose our appetite. Under the form of bread God becomes for us the food of life. "We break a bread," writes St. Ignatius of Antioch to the faithful at Ephesus, "we break a bread that is the food of immortality." By this food our being is so nourished with God himself that we exist in him and he in us."
