after an exciting visit of the mines, we finally found our way out of the dark, cold tunnels. this is my last photo of our short trip to the french-speaking part of switzerland. we were really amazed about the beautiful val-de-travers... be prepared now for some other shots of our second trip this summer - the lovely valle maggia in the south of our little country!

on our last day of our short trip to the val de travers we visited an ancient asphalt mine. it was a very interesting walk through the dark adit. we had an excellent guide, who lead us through this huge system of tunnels and we learnt a lot about the daily work of the miners. it's definetely worth a visit if you are around sometime...

on the 2nd day of our short trip, we went to les brenets, a small village just steps away from the french border. there you can do a lovely little hike along the river doubs which leads directly to a massive waterfall. this picture shows a part of "lac des brenets", the lake where the river has its source...

another really cool object on our hike was this huge sign built by the artists emmanuelle antille and christian pahud. in the picture you can see, how excited my girlfriend was about this art piece. ;-)

the description of it is as followed: "a parking lot like in america... a radio station (frequency FM 88.6) submits statements of the inhabitants of môtiers to the visitors of this art piece."

interferences and noises

at the highest point of our art-hike, we came to this glade inside a forest with some of the most interesting pieces of art on it. the pole with the satellite dishes is an object by artist guillaume arlaud called "sans titre". the description of it is as followed: "interferences and noises limiting rooms, they restrain the round tour of the visitor."

the large wooden object in the back is a work by artist mireille fulpius with the following description: "the more you take, the more you free the matter from its opacity, you help to give it more transparency and light."

one of the first art installations when we started our hiking trip was this object, created by the artists oppy de bernardo et aldo mozzini under the title "palo della cuccagna".

the description of the work is: "in times of hunger, the maypol was a symbol for satiation. freedom-trees, like the ones, who were built during the failed revolution in 1831 in val-de-travers, stand for the fight against the oppressors"

la petite cascade

in the little village of môtiers, we made a very interesting hike of about 2-3 hours. the hiking trail guided us through beautiful alleys with lovely houses, along little creeks and rivers and into beautiful forests. the most interesting thing about the hike trail was, that it was accompanied with about 70 pieces of art, all created by swiss artists. this exhibition under the "art en plein air" motto takes place every two years. of course, i've made a lot of pictures of the sculptures, installations and paintings you can see on this beautiful and interesting hike... so keep an eye on my stream! :-)

from 17th to 19th of august, we went to the french speaking region of our lovely homecountry switzerland to spend our holidays. actually, we wanted to go to scotland during whole august. we have already booked our flights, our rental car and we read a lot of travel guides about this beautiful country. unfortuneatly, i had to go to the hospital with a horible stomach pain, about three weeks ago. the doctors diagnosed two really big kidney stones in my body (5 and 9 mm !!), which will be removed not until the 14th of september... :-( so, our scotland-trip was dead!!

as a tiny replacement, we decided to keep in our homecountry and visit some places we have never been to. as i said, from 17th to 19th of august, we stayed in "val de travers", a beautiful valley in the western country, where the famous liquour "absinthe" is produced, and from 25th to 28th of august, we drove all the way down to our most southern canton, the mediterranean region of canton ticino, where we visited another beautiful valley, the "valle maggia"... of course, i've made a lot of pictures, which i will now present to you. i hope you enjoy them!
