Peregrine Falcon In Flight Curry Hammock State Park

We are approaching the peak of Hawk Migration in the Florida Keys !! Curry Hammock is the Southern most Hawk Watch site in the United States and holds the world record for the most Peregrine Falcons sighted in one day anywhere in the world! This photo was taken at Curry Hammock State Park last year on a gray day. Some days the Hawks fly above the clouds and other days they are cruising just above the trees!! This Peregrine flew low over some shorebirds just to say HI ( Shorebirds were NOT happy) !!

This is another image from the Klaus Peter photo walk trip to Circle B. I shot this guy on the way home on Sunday from Circle B. This beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk was flying across a field which made for a really nice background!! Hope everyone had a good weekend and as always thanks for all the comments !!

Northern Harrier Searching For Prey Green Cay Wetlands

This photo was taken earlier this year as this Northern Harrier hovered, searching for prey at Green Cay Wetlands! Northern Harriers feed on anything from birds (including ducks) to bugs !! Linda and I hope everyone had a great weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday !!

Peregrine Falcon In Flight Curry Hammock Key Vaca Florida Keys

EXPLORE # 250 October 5, 2010 ---- Linda and I spent Sunday afternoon down at Curry Hammock State Park, on Vaca Key watching Hawk migration. We saw over a thousand raptors fly over, including 120 Peregrine Falcons. Sunday afternoon they were averaging 40 Peregrines per hour.
Photography at the site is very difficult as the birds are all very high in the sky. This image was hand held at 800 mm's so that gives you an idea of what it is like!! Well thanks for looking and all the wonderful comments !! Kevan and Linda..
