I had in mind to stake out this spot and wait for a beautiful sari to sweep past me. I did eventually get my sari shot, but I decided I liked this guy's look better.

From the Red Fort in Agra, former palace of Akbar the Great. Despite use of an orange filter, I had a hard time blocking the shadows enough, leaving Akbar's ghost feeling a little overexposed.

The oven is built into the packed clay floor of the courtyard of the house. The small bowl on the right is used to shape the roti. Mmm, roti.

The world's tallest brick minaret, built by the Sultan of Delhi in the 11th century. In an early and rather aggressive example of using reclaimed building materials, the minaret and the complex were built from the stones of 21 Hindu and Jain temples that the Sultan had destroyed. You can see that the faces on the column in the foreground have been, well, defaced, in keeping with the prohibition on facial representation in Islamic art.

The Mughal emperors had a thing for tombs as sort of necro-phallic signifiers. It's supposed to send a "Look upon my works and despair" message, but I think the pigeons have the last word on endurance here.

A Hindu pujari hand-washing his garments in the courtyard of a 19th century Hindu temple in a remote part of Rajasthan. An example of India winning me over with its vibrant colors, but I've still got plenty of B&W in me.

I got lots of postcard-ish shots of the Taj Majal today, but the stray dog sunbathing beneath it seemed to embody the contrasts of India better than anything else.

Actually just the creek running through Oneonta Gorge. Getting in there isn't quite this guy's effort, but it does involve wearing waders and climbing over a log jam.
