I think it's finally done for the year. Everything looks very sad and tired. The leeks will probably survive, although I'll have to make sure and harvest them when the ground is thawed.

This is a weird tomato that I harvested from my backyard garden. It's a monster, weighing in at 1 pound, 4 ounces. It also looks exactly what I imagine two tomatoes that grew together would look like.

From left to right: basil, two ripe tomatoes, one green tomato (picked accidentally), a bunch of purple long beans (with fork for scale), a huge bunch of kale, and more basil.

Purple Yard Long Beans

Not really a yard long -- more like 12 inches -- but very cool looking. I picked these at my community garden plot. I'm anticipating many more -- the plants are extremely prolific.

Other beans in my plot have been devastated by Mexican bean beetles, but these have not been touched.

I built two new garden beds today. This is a "before" shot of one of them. My original two garden beds don't go all the way to the fence, and the two beds fill this gap.

To build the beds I first put down some cardboard to smoother the grass and weeds between the new bed and the fence.
