May 10, 1984 Poppy days – Woodridge Mayor William Murphy, left, makes his donation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) poppy days campaign. Ron Eubank of Woodridge, right, chairman off poppy days in the village, is a member of VGW Post 1578. Veterans will be distributing poppies and collecting donations in Woodridge on Friday, May 11. The money collected will aid disabled veterans.

October 11, 1984 Candy day – Mayor William Murphy shows Lions President George Soloy a proclaimation of Lions Candy Day in Woodridge on Friday Oct. 12. Half of the proceeds from Candy Day are used to support the Lions Eye Research Institute of the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. The remaining proceeds are used to fund such activities as the Lion’s eye screening program at Good Samaritan Hospital. Anyone wishing to help with Candy Day or who would like more information about the Lions should call Soloy at 969-4531.
