I realized I could use my frequent flyer miles [which were otherwise sitting unused, who wants to fly MORE?] to send some fun stuff through the mail/fedex for V Day.

The FTD website implied that Jim would be getting a little gift as shown. What he actually got was more of a gift kit: bag of damp rocks, box with glass box inside it, some bamboo in a bag, a card somewhere in there, a lot of syrofoam peanuts, an invoice.

So, I got to get on video chat and watch him try to put this together, the poor man.

It was unclear if this was how this thing was supposed to work, but I was pretty sure it wasn't. Then again, I've never done this before [and may never again] and it was basically free anyhow. But I'm tenacious and easily annoyed so I figured I'd be a glutton for punishment and try to submit my grievances to FTD. What the heck, right?

Their phone line was a non-option on 2/12 but I did send an email which was basically accurate but slightly more overwrought than I normally am.

I got an email back from them saying they are sending me a coupon. So, um, great! What can I buy for $15 at FTD?

valentine's day soup

red pepper lentil soup

2 tbsp oil
1 diced onion
2 minced cloves garlic
4 diced carrots
1 diced red pepper

1 1/2 c red lentils

2-3 tsp cumin
6 cups stock

Pretty basic deal. Saute veggies in oil til soft & tasty. Add to stock with lentils and cumin. Cook down for 60-90 minutes Presto. Easy and delicious. You can add wild rice and other grains if you want. This soup is brown and looks totally uninteresting but is really good. Also, it's vegan if you make it with veggie stock.
