In Lucerne's Jesuitenkirche, or "Jesuit church," none of the marble is real. Instead, it is highly polished and masterfully painted wood, called "stucco marble." This method was employed since marble was expensive to buy and transport through the mountains.

As our food was being prepared, we all ventured outside. Cameron, who had been throwing snowballs all day beginning at Mt. Pilatus, started a snowball fight. Everyone joined the fight, but Dylan was the only one armed with a shovel. He became temporarily possessed, and several people got hit with shovels of snow, although I believe Cameron escaped.

Leave it to a couple of kids from Alabama to be this crazy and excited about real snow.

After dessert they passed out spoons to everyone and tried to teach us how to play. The cacophony of sound was hilariously funny, but we all tried our hand at it.

At the restaurant there was a traditional Swiss band. The accordion player's boyfriend got up and started slinging girls around. Here he is with Mrs. Rinkehammer, one of our teachers/chaperones that came on the trip. It looked more like physical abuse than dancing, but they both had a marvelous time.

I never thought I'd see the day.

Like typical Alabama kids, we were incredibly excited when one of the waiters brought out snow shoes so we could explore the mountain summit.

They were all brothers and sister, 14, 19, and 17 respectively. We kept joking that they were merely playing the same song over and over again, since many of the folk tunes sound very similar.

Once we had our drinks, everyone went outside to check out the view, and these goats were outside. They kept putting their hooves up on people and butting them in the legs to try and get to out beer.

"Downriver, between the Kasernenplatz and the Mühlenplatz, the Spreuerbrücke or Mill Bridge zigzags across the Reuss. Constructed in 1408, it is the oldest covered bridge in Europe and features a series of medieval-style 17th Century plague paintings by Kaspar Meglinger titled Dance of Death. Meglinger's paintings portray various conditions of men and women, priests and warriors, princes and men of learning, the young bride, the devout nun, the lawmaker, the hunter, the miller, even the artist himself, are all depicted at the mercy of Death, with his mocking smile and his ever-changing garb. These paintings, suitable for a Benedictine abbey, are seen by every inhabitant of beautiful Lucerne who crosses the river via the Spreuerbrücke. It has a small chapel in the middle that was added in 1568."

As Beate explained, many store fronts in Europe are still decorated as they would have been several hundred years ago, before much of the population was literate. Each shop would decorate their building so that it'd be obvious to your average illiterate Joe what they could find or do there. On the far left you see a giant necklace hanging from the building, so it's safe to presume that there you might find a jewelry shop.

"The Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal) in Lucerne, Switzerland. The Monument commemorates the sacrifice of more than six hundred Swiss Guards ("Gardes suisse") who died defending the Tuileries Palace in Paris at the time of the overthrow of the French Monarchy on 10 August 1792 during the French Revolution. The Swiss Guards were the most senior of the thirteen regiments of Swiss mercenaries in the Royal Army and had served with distinction since the sevententh century. The Monument portrays a dying lion lying across broken symbols of the Monarchy."
