Fried Sage Leaves

Chiot's Run posted a photo:

If you’ve never had fried sage leaves as a garnish on your soup or pasta you’re missing out. They’re delicious, healthy, and quite easy to make. If you have a sage plant in your garden, no doubt you’ve been looking for ways to use them up. Sage is one of my favorite flavors, I use it all the time in my cooking. One of my favorite ways to eat them is fried. Simply fry them in nourishing deep yellow pastured butter from a local farm and you’ve got yourself something special. I always have to fry up extra because I snack on them while dinner is finishing up!

Do You Want Fries With That?

As you can imagine we don't do regular normal burger toppings on our venison burgers (thanks to Mr Chiots great hunting skills this past year). Naturally we use homemade buns, which I bake up and keep in the freezer so we always have some on hand. The burgers are topped with: homemade roasted pear chutney, caramelized onions and local raw milk blue cheese. Our burgers are usually enjoyed with a few of our homegrown potatoes fried in coconut oil. It sure makes for a quick, simple, delicious and healthy meal! And you can't forget a Mexican Coke made with real sugar in a glass bottle.

Decided to enjoy a raw whole milk latte and some made from scratch chocolate chip cookies while reading through the new 2010 USDA dietary guidelines. These cookies were made with: tons of organic pastured butter, organic freshly ground whole grain flour, organic sugar, organic eggs, and organic chocolate chips.

I made my first batch of kimchi two years ago after reading about it’s incredible health benefits. Not only is it full of goodness derived from garlic, ginger, chili, cabbage, and onions, but it’s also fermented. Fermenting foods infuses them with powerful immune boosting probiotics and makes them more digestible which allows our bodies to derive more nutrition from the ingredients included, along with other foods consumed with them.

Every Sunday afternoon I've been finishing off a batch of maple syrup from all the sap we collected that week. This year I've been finishing mine to a final temp of 219.5 F and it seems to be perfect. This is one degree above the recommended for our climate, but it produces a slightly thicker syrup but it doesn't crystallize. It's quite delicious and we've been eating pancakes every morning since I finished the first batch.

I have a friend who always tells me, “you can just make me a bunch of these for Christmas” whenever she eats one of my gingerbread cookies (she doesn’t cook or I’d just give her the recipe). I’ve always made her something instead, last year it was a nice tree skirt to match her simple mission decor. This year however, I decided I’d finally do it. She gets one of my calendars of course, but I thought a big box of gingerbread cookies would be a wonderful addition to that gift.
