Seaboard Coast Line GE U18B locomotive # 259, is seen in the yard (former SAL) while switching cars at Wildwood, Florida, mid 1970's. This GE U18B diesel electric locomotive is among a group of lighter U18B's locomotives that utilized a smaller fuel tank to reduce the locomotives total weight, permitting it to operate on light rail branch lines, spurs and sidings. You can plainly see the engineer in the cab.

Wilkes-Barre & Hazleton (WB&H) ALCO-General Electric 60 Ton Steeple Cab Electric Locomotive # 400, built in June 1212, Photographer & Pennsylvania location unknown, Circa early 1930's. This electric motor utilizes twin trolley poles rather than a pantograph to reach the catenary. It is interesting to note that this locomotive also has third rail electrical power pickup shoes on both trucks that were utilized on it's third rail right-of-way. The big brass plate located at the middle of the locomotive's frame, is the GE builders plate. In 1934 the locomotive was sold and it became OPS 80, and T&E 80 in 1945.

From Wikipedia: The Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton Railway was an electric railway in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania connecting the cities of Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton. It operated from 1903 to 1933 using a third rail and had no grade crossings. It was approximately thirty miles long and had one tunnel between Warrior Run and Nuangola through Penobscot Knob which Interstate 81 now crosses.[

H.M.S. Bounty is undergoing hull repairs while tied up at her dock at Saint Petersburg, Florida, 1974. Marine carpenters are replacing hull planks along the port side of her bow. This sailing vessel made Saint Peterssburg home for many years as a display attraction. Too bad she now gone for good! This harbor near the pier approach leads out into Tampa Bay and then to the Gulf of Mexico..

10 Section - 1 Drawing Room - 2 Compartment Pullman sleeper, O-Scale model, modified & super detailed Walthers kit, built by me in 1973. This was my second attemp at building an O-scale passenger car. The car name was applied later along with the final painting of the safety chains and couplers. This car finally became part of the Bill Savage O-scale collection. The car is sitting on Gar-Graves track for photography purposes.

New Haven Railroad ALCO J-2 class Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive # 3104, is seen in an unknown railroad yard & shop facility, late 1920's, photographer unknown. This locomtove class was built in 1916 and originally had a high mounted oil burning headlight. It appears at this time the locomotive still retains it's original boiler tube pilot, that will later be replaced with a step style freight pilot. Locomotive # 3104 was one of the five locomotives built specifically for the New Haven, while # 3105-3107 were former CNE Locomotives # 180-182 built at the same time.

New Haven Railroad ALCO J-2 class Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive # 3105, is seen in an unknown railroad yard, mid 1930's, photographer unknown. It appears that this locomotive may be working the yard hump by it's location on a grade. There appears to be another steam locomotive tender located behind this locomotive's tender. This class of fat boilered Mikado's sure looks large. This steam locomotive was formerly CNE locomotive # 180. There is a block signal located behind the front of the locomotive.

New Haven Railroad ALCO J-2 class Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive # 3106, is seen at an unknown railroad yard & shop location, photographer unknown, mid 1930's. This locomotive was originally a CNE locomotive # 181. These locomotives were utilized in yard service, hump service, pusher service and transfer service throughout their careers. This locomotive class was never equiipped for road service. The vanderbilt tenders that came with the Y-4 class switcher were supposed to be assigned to these locomotives to replace the small rectangular tenders being used. These fat boilered and powerfull locomotives did not have an automatic coal stoker and a single fireman could not keep up with their great demand for coal if used in road service. Originally these locomotives were also to have feed water heaters and other improvements, but they never were installed. Six of these locomotives in this class did receive thermic syphons. A general opinion held by many rail historians and locomotive enthusiast is that these locomotives were never rebuilt as they should have been to become a great road power locomotive class for freight service. You can see the automatic train stop located on the running board near the cab.

Ten switchers of the Y-4 class were delivered to the New Haven Railroad in November 1924. An interesting fact was that these Y-4 switchers arrived with large vanderbilt tenders that were eventually supplied to some of the R-1 class 4-8-2's. The small rectangular tenders from the R-1 class locomotives had the coal pocket cut back to produce a clear vision tender for the Y-4 class steam switchers. In the background behind the tender you can see the locomotive coaling tower.
The ash pit track is where the locomotives normally dropped their fires (burnt coals and ash) prior to heading into the roundhouse for service and maintenance. These switchers were normally assigned to the following railroad yards, Cedar Hill, Hartford, Maybrook, Providence and Worcester, for use as hump and transfer power. In the late 1940's a few of these switchers also worked in Readville. These steam locomotives were known to operate as well as they looked, even though they were of 3-cyliner design. At this time, these switchers utilized clear vision tenders.

Seaboard Coast Line's former Office Car (Jacksonville), owned at this time by Bill Savage, is seen in an observation platform view while spotted on a siding near the Imperial Marina in Tampa, Florida, mid 1970's. This car according to Bill, was once the private office car used by his Father when he was a past railroad vice president. The car is a conventional heavyweight car with an observation platform that has been modernized to some extent. Roller bearing were installed in the trucks, extra batteries added, a self contained generator added, a new window panel with thermopane windows installed and air conditioning ducting was incorporated on the roof. The interior of the car included a few bedrooms, private bathrooms, crewman's area, small kitchen - galley area, meeting area, dining area and lounge section. There were some nice wood wall panels installed within the car, plus full carpeting in the executive areas. Yes, of course, there was a fully stocked bar too. This location is not far from the Gandy Bridge and West Shore Boulevard. The blind end of the car (diaphragm end), contained the kitchen-galley, pantry, crew members area, combination dining area - meeting room. This car did not meet Amtrak standards and did not have tightlock couplers, so it was hauled to various location in a freight train movement.
